Description
JOHN W. PHILP, OF HUMBOLDT, TENNESSEE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 61,819, dated April 6, 1875; application filed March 29, 187 5.
CASE B.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. PHILP, of Humboldt, in the county of Gibson and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cotton-Bale Tie; and 1 do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the artto which itpertains to make and usethe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
In improving the wire tie it is my aim to produce the simplest and most effective method for the purpose, and with the least amount of wire. My present improvement is made with this View; and consists of a coil or loop at one end of the wire, in combination with a ring or link to hold the other, and, when passed through the coil and bent up at the end, to confine the link.
The drawings show a wire tie with my improvement.
One end of the wire 10 is made into a single or double coil, 0, and the other end, after being passed through the coil, is secured by a ring or link, l, held in place by the upturned end 6 of the wire.
The link is held upon the tying end, between the coil 0 and the upturned end 6, and allows the tying end to be quite short to save-wire, as the link is made from scrap pieces, and not upon the coiled end of the wire, as in my patented ties, which enables me to effect a very important saving in wire.
I claim The wire bale-tie, having the coil 0 at the end, in combination with the link I, to hold the tie end, and be itself secured in place by the turned-up end 0, as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have affixed my signature in pres ence of two witnesses.
JOHN W. PHILP. Witnesses:
JoHN P. JoHNsoN, M. H. JOHNSON.
