COMBINED FACE rownnn. Ann 'LIP STICK Colvrlirivn'r.yl
My invention comprises, generally, a combined face powder and lipstick container in which one portion of the container is arranged to carry the powder, the powder puff and a suitable reflector, another portion of the container being arranged to carry the lipstick and its holder.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 represents the combined container in top plan;
Fig. 2 represents a side view of the same;
Fig. 3 represents a section takenin the plane of the line III-III of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows;
Fig. 4 represents a top plan View of the combined container, a portion of the top j being broken away to more clearly show the position of the lipstick holder therein;
Fig. 5 represents a detail section on an enlarged scale, taken in the plane of the line V-V of Fig. 4, looking in the direction of the arrows;
Fig. 6 represents another enlarged detail section, taken in the plane of the line VI-VI of Fig. 4, looking in the direction of the arrows Fig. 77 represents a detail top plan view of the lipstick holder removed from its container;
Fig. 8 represents a side View of the holder; and
Fig. 9 represents a section taken in the plane of the line IX-IX of Fig. 8, looking in the direction of the arrows.
The combined powder and lipstick container is provided with an upwardly swinging cover 1, hinged at 2 across the top of the container a distance forwardly from its back,
` said cover carrying on its interior a suitable reiiector 3. The interior of the combined container is divided by a transverse vertical partition 4 to form a lipstick chamber 5 and by a transverse horizontal partition 6 to form a powder chamber 7 which horizontal partition 6 has an openingy 8 therethrough for gaining access to the powder. A flat powder puii (not shown herein) may be interposed between the partition 6 and its reflector 8.
The lipstickV chamber 5; extends transversely across the back ofthe combined container and is open at one end for receiving the removable lipstick holder. This lipstick chamber 5 is preferably rectangular inform in'cross section, .the top and bottom walls belngA enoted by 9 Vand 10,the sidewalls b 4 and 12 and the end wall by 13. A
The lipstick holder is tubular and preferably rectangular in cross section and is open at one end for the projection therethrough of the lipstick, the top and bottom walls of the holder being denoted by 14and 15, the side walls by 16 and 17 and the end wall by 18. This holderis rictionally retained within the lipstick chamber 5, as for instance by striking e up a pair of oppositely disposed yielding pro- 'ections 19 and 2O from the top and bottom walls 14 and 15 near the open end of the holder, which projections frictionally engage the top and bottom walls 9 and 10 of the lipstick chamber.` j
The lipstick is denoted by 21 and its slide by 22, whichy slide itswithin the tubular lipstick holder and is providedy with a pair of oppositely disposed linger pieces v28, 24,'
the shanksof which slide in elongated slots 25, 26 in the side walls 16 and 1( ofthe holder. YThese finger pieces project beyond the. side walls of the holder intopositionto frictionally engage vthey side walls 4 and 12 of `the klipstick chamber 5 so that if the lipstick is left projecting beyond the .end of the holder the lipstick will be ,automatically moved inwardly to a; position within the holder as the holder is slidA into Vits housed position within the chamber 5, thus protecting the lipstickfrom injury, it being understood that the lipstick is commonly made of soft material.
To limit the inward movement of the lipstick holder into'the chamber 5 and to facilitate its removal from the chamber the edges of the end wall 18 of the holder project slightly beyond the walls, one edge being extendedV to provide a iinger piece 27.
From the above description it will be seen that l have provided an article of the class described in which the lipstick holder is con' veniently housed and held in its housed posiloc Y tion by friction and in which the housing of the lipstick in the holder is ensured by the frictional engagement of the linger pieces of its slide with the Walls of the lipstick cham- 5 ber as the holder is inserted into its position therein.
It is evident that various changes may be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts Without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not intend to be limited to the particular embodiment herein shown and described, but
What I claim is:
l. A container having a chamber open at one end, a lipstickv holderslidable into and out of said chamber, and yielding projections'struck from the Walls of the holder to c frictionally retain the holder in the chamber.
2. A container having a chamber open at one end, a lipstick holder'slidable into and out of said chamber, and a lipstick slide in said holder having means arranged to frictionally engage the Walls of the chamber to v ensure` the housing of the lipstick in its holder as the holder is slid into its position Within the chamber.
3. A container having a chamber open at one end, a lipstick holder slidable into and out. of said chamber, and a lipstick slide in said holder having finger pieces projecting through the side Walls of the holder into position to frictionally engage the Walls of the chamber to ensure the housing of thelip- L stick in its holder as the holder is slid into its position Within the chamber.
4. A container having a chamber open at one end, a lipstick holder slidable into and out of saidchamber, means to frictionally 4W retain the holder inthe chamber, a lipstick slidein said holder, and-means carried by the lipstick slide arranged to frictionally engage the Walls of the cnamber to ensurethe ,l housing of the lipstick in its holder as the holder is slid'into its position Within Vthe chambenw In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name this 18th day of November, 1932.
