(Cl. 132-121) This invention relates to a combination toilet device and has as its object to arrange and accommodate several toilet articles in a suitable arrangement and design in a single device. In accordance therewith the invention relates to a toilet device comprising a brush and a handle comb and resides essentially in that the back of the brush is formed as a sheath for receiving the comb and when the latter is received in the sheath its handle forms at the same time a handle of the brush. The back of the brush has desirably a recess for accommodating a mirror or an ornamental or advertising panel or the like.

A development of this device has the object of enlarging its field of application while retaining its handy design and without substantial increase in size or space requirement. In that embodiment the comb handle is formed as a container which is open at the free end to enable a lipstick to be inserted into the same, and the back of the brush has preferably a cavity for accommodating and taking powder. Thus the device which is provided with a comb, brush and mirror for hair grooming is also enabled to accommodate a lipstick and, if desired, a powder container in a simple and appropriate design. Because the diameters of commercially available lipsticks differ slightly from each other, by as much as about 4 mm, the container or a brush carried by it may be provided on its inside wall with resilient projections such as tongues, ribs, bosses or the like for adapting the inside diameter of the container to diiferent lipstick diameters. Thus only a single device is necessary for different lipsticks and the user is enabled to use the lipstick to which she is accustomed. These resilient projections reliably grip the lipstick in the container bore, which is designed for lipsticks having the largest diameter. Tonguelike projections have the additional advantage that they will apply themselves between the lipstick and the wall of the bore to prevent the lipstick from moving back and falling out of the container. In a preferred embodiment the bush is formed according to the invention as a flanged nipple provided with resilient projections preferably in the form of radial tongues. This has the advantage that the flanged nipple will remain on the lip stick when the latter is being taken out of the container. Thereby the wear of the resilient holding means is reduced and the insertion and removal of the lipstick into and out of the container is facilitated because the nipple and bore have smooth walls.

According to the invention the device may be provided with a powder container by constructing the cavity like a box having a hinged or removable cover or by providing it with an insert in the form of a powder box or a slidable powder drawer.

Additional features of the invention will become apparent from the following description with reference to the drawing, in which embodiments of the invention are shown by way of example.

The comb part of the device (Figs. 8, 9) comprises the 1 comb portion 11 carrying the teeth 12 and the handle portion 13 which passes over at the shoulder 14 into the comb portion. The brush part (Figs. 6, 7) consists of an approximately rectangular plate having a sheathlike recess 17 for accommodating the comb part 11. The front face of the plate is set with bristles 18, which project substantially at right angles from the plate. The back 21 of the plate may be closed or formed with a recess 19, in which an insert such as a mirror 29 or a decorative or advertising panel or the like may be slidably received or may be afiixed in another manner. In the embodiment shown the back 21 forms a frame and is provided at its longitudinal sides with ribs for guiding the mirror or the like. The recess 19 and the mirror 29 or the like may be covered by a transparent foil 28 or the like, which is indicated with dash lines in Fig. 1.

As is apparent from Figs. 1 to 5 the comb portion 11 carrying the comb teeth of the comb 11 is inserted in the sheath 17 of the brush with the shoulder 14 abutting the part 15. Thus a combination brush and comb having the handle 13 is formed. When a mirror 29 has been inserted the handle 13 serves at the same time as a handle for the mirror. If only the comb is to be used the brush 13 is removed and be used separately. When the brush is pushed on the comb it forms also a protective sheath for the comb teeth 12.

In the embodiment shown in Figs. 10-14 the comb 31 having teeth 32 is slidably received in a slot 33 formed in the back 31 of the brush. The comb handle 34 is formed with a bore 35 for the lipstick 36, which is struck in a flanged nipple 37 inserted in the open end of the bore. The nipple has tongues 39, which extend between the lipstick and the nipple wall 38 and provide a form grip for lipsticks of diiferent diameters, as has been described. As is shown in Figs. 15, 16 the tongues 39 are formed by a membrane which covers the nipple opening and is cut through several times. The membrane may also be annular so that the tongues have the shape of segments rather than sectors. The tongues may also be formed and arranged in other ways. It is possible to provide resilient bosses 44 (Figs. 17, 18) or longitudinal ribs 45 (Figs. 19, 20). It is obvious that these tongues, bosses, ribs or the like may also be formed or provided directly on the inside wall of the container or bore 35 and can be compressed by the lipstick owing to the elasticity of the plastic material forming the handle, which is made, e. g., by injection molding. As is shown in Figs. 21 and Patented Dec. 3, 1957 3 22 the handle end is formed with a beaded rim 46, on which a cap 47 is applied which is formed with diametrically inwardly extending lugs 48 or the like.

To provide a powder container the back of the brush may be formed with a prismatic cavity 40, in which a drawer 41 for powder is slidably received as is shown in Figs. and 13. The cavity is suitably open at the free end face of the back of the brush so that the powder can be taken when the comb is inserted.

The back of the brush is provided at its top face with a mirror 42 or the like, which is embraced by edge beads 43 of framelike configuration.

According to Fig. 14 the cavity 40 is formed as a pow der container itself, the back of the brush having a cover hinged at 50. The cover could also be arranged to be stuck on the back of the brush.

It is suitable to make the device according to the invention from plastic material, the brush and the comb being made each for itself as an integral part. It is obvious that the construction may be modified within the scope of the claims. For instance, the mirror 29 or panel may be omitted or may be replaced by a second set of bristles. In the embodiment with the lipstick it is possible to provide flanged nipples of different size or wall thickness to adapt the handle bore to different lipstick diameters. Alternatively the flanged nipple 37 or the cap 47 may be omitted, the lipstick being directly inserted into the bore 35 or a corresponding recess in the comb handle.

The cavity 40 for the powder may be oval or circular for accommodating round powder inserts.

The cavity for the powder may be open on the rear side of the brush and arranged to be closed by a hinged or slide cover, which may consist of or be provided with a mirror. In the case of a slide cover the mirror need to be provided only on the outside of the cover, whereas in the case of a hinged cover it may be provided on the inside and outside of the cover.

I claim:

1. A toilet article comprising a combination; a comb member including a toothed portion and a longitudinally, rearwardly extending, toothless handle portion; a sheath of substantially rectangular configuration removably engaging and enveloping said comb toothed portion leaving said handle portion exposed and said sheath including opposite fiat longitudinally extending walls, one of said walls being provided with outwardly projecting bristles defining a brush head with said sheath, said comb handle defining the sole handle for said brush.

2. A toilet article in accordance with claim 1, wherein a peripheral shoulder separates said toothed comb portion and said handle portion and closely confronts the peripheral edge of the entrance opening of said sheath.

3. A toilet article in accordance with claim 1, wherein said bristles and said sheath are integrally formed.

4. A toilet article in accordance with claim 1, wherein said handle has a longitudinally extending cavity formed therein, the wall of said cavity being provided with inwardly directed resilient projections.
