t POWDER HOLDER.
Application filed July 10, 1925. Serial No. 42,650.
Q '0 all whom it may concern Be it known that we, EMiL SCHUELKE and JULIUS Ross, citizens of the United States, residing at Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Powder Holders; and we do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characii) ters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application and represent, in-
Fig. 1 a plan View of a vanity-box showi5 iiig our improved powder-holder located therein. i
Fig, 2a sectional View on the line 2- of Fig. 1, enlarged.
Fig. 3 a plan view of the powder-holder, detached. I
Fig. 4: an edge view of the same. I Fig. 5 a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3, enlarged. i
Fig. 6 a plan view of the shiitter, detached. This invention relates to improvement in powder-holders particularly adapted for vanity-boxes of the type of powder-holder which consists of a top with openings therein, through which powder is extruded. The object of this invention is to provide means for extruding the powder, and the invention consists in providing a shutter with blades adapted to force powder through the openings.
to provide means for firmly locating a powder-container in a vanity-box, and the invention consists in mounting; a shutter the under-side of a perforated top1-plate, forming this shutter with radialblades and proi0 viding the-box with a springarm adapted to till engage with the under-side wall otia vanityboX,-all as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.
In carry ng out our invention, we emplo iiig flange 11. The plate is formed with a plurality of powder-openings '12 and with a concentric slot 13. Connected with the un-v so dei'face of the to -plate is a shutter 14:
1? which projects upward through the slot -tial, spring-locking arm 21, formed at its A further object of the invention is.
a container comprising a top-plate 10, preterably conoaved, and a downwardly-extend 13 and by which the shutter may be rotated. '55 Powder having been placed in the container, the container is closed by a back 18 preferably bowed, andattached to this back is a spring-locking bar 19, the ends of which project slightly beyond the edges of" the back-plate and are adapted to enter and engage with bayonet 'grooves 20 formed in opposite sides of the .fiange 11. Attached to the outer edge of the container is a tangen- 66 outer end with an inwardly-ofliset finger 22. In the normal position, this'spring stands at a tangent to the container, but is' pressed toward the container to adapt it to be in I serted into a vanity-box 23, the finger 22 springing outward to engage with an annulJar shoulder 24, near the upper edge of the By' rotatin the shutter by means of the finger-piece I l, powder in the container will i be forced by the blades 16 upward through the openings 12 in suitable quantity, these openings 12, however, being closed when the shutter is in either of its extreme-positions, but when moved in one direction will force a suilicielnt amount bf powder upward through the openings, in position to be removed by the usual puff. With this construction, the powder-0on tainei' is firmly held in a. vanity-box, but can be freely removed when desired, as the fingers 17 and 22 may be caught by the nails of the thumb and first finger, so as to move the end of the spring 21 toward the side ofthe container and clear the shoulder 24. in the box. When in place, the spring provides sufficieiit friction, so that the container is not moved bythe turning of the shutter..
A powder-holder, comprising a top-plate formed with openings and with a concentric slot and havin a downwardly-extending, flange provide with bayonet grooves, a shutter bearing against the under-face of the top-plate, formed with slots, the edges of which form downwardly-turned blades, and a back-plate fitting within said flange and provided with a transverse bar, the ends of which engage with said bayonet grooves.
In testimony whereof, we have signed this specification.
