PIPE
Filed June 27, 1931 4226765. ffarw'ra INVENTOR Patented Oct. 25, 1932 UNETE$ STATE JOHN B. MAR-IN, OF DOUGLAS, TERRITORY OF ALASKA PIPE Application filed June 27,
This invention relates to smoking pipes and has for the primary object, the provision of a well within the stem of a pipe where moisture and saliva may collect and provided with means between the well and bowl of the pipe whereby free passage of smoke may be had to the mouth piece of the pipe without the danger of the collected moisture or salive in the well coming in contact with the tobacco, thus assuring a cool and sanitary smoke for the user.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a device of the above stated character which will be simple, durable and emcient and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists in certain novel features of construction combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawlng, in which Figure 1 is a sectional view illustrating a.- pipe constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view illustrating the same.
Figure 3 is a sectional view similar to Figure 1 illustrating a modified form of my invention.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates the bowl of a smoking pipe having formed integral therewith the stem 2 provided with a collecting chamber 3 adapted to receive the reduced end 4 of a mouth piece 5. The bore 6 of the mouth piece 5 receives a tube 7 that projects well into the collecting chamber 3 as clearly shown in Figure 1.
The stem 2 adjacent to its attachment to the mouth piece 5 is provided with an inclined opening S extending through the top wall of 1931. Serial No. 547,414.
the stem to receive one end of a substantially arcuate shaped tube 9. The stem 2 adjacent the bowl 1 is provided with a passage 10 that communicates at one end with the base of the U bowl and extends outwardly through the top 50 wall of the stem for the purpose of receiving the other end of the tube 9. The last named end of the tube terminates within the passage 10 adjacent its communication with the A bowl 1 so that saliva and other moisture collected within the chamber 3 will be prevented from entering the bowl 1 and mixing with the tobacco therein. Further moisture created in the bowl from the burning tobacco h i will be retarded from entering the chamber 3 owing to the inclination of the pipe 9, however, the pipe 9 permits free passage of smoke from the bowl into the chamber 3 and thence through the tube 7 and through the H bore 6 of the mouth piece into the mouth of the smoker. The saliva entering thebore 6 from the mouth of the smoker will drain and collect within the chamber 3, thus it will be seen that a very sanitary pipe has been n provided and one which will furnish a cool smoke to the user and further that the collecting chamber 3 can be easily cleansed by removing the mouth piece 5.
Referring to my modified form of invention, the stem 11 is similar in construction to the stem 2 having the collecting chamber 12 receiving the mouth piece 13. The upper face of the stem has an ofiset portion 14 in which is formed a passage 15 communicating with the collecting chamber 12 and with the base of the bowl 16.
lVhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in con- A smoking pipe comprising a bowl, a stem on said bowl and having a collecting chamber;
a mouth piece connected to the stem, :1 tube in communication with the bore of the mouth 5 piece and extending Well into the chamber and spaced from the walls thereof, said stem having an arcuazte-shaped passage communicative at one end with the bowl and the other end communicative with the chamber 30 adjacent the mouthpiece and spaced 3; considerable distance from the free end of the tube.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
