SMOKING PIPE.
Application filed May 12, 1924. Serial No. 712,805.
Another purpose is to provide a pipe wherein the outside wall of the bowl acts as a condenser due to the moisture in the outside wall of the bowl, so a cooler and better smoke may be obtained.
Still another purpose is to provides pipe bowl consisting of the outer wall, the inner bowl wall which receives the tobacco, to
gether with an intermediate wall, all three walls conforming to each other with a space between the intermediate wall and the inner and outer bowl walls, so as to afford a circuitous passage for the smoke, there being openings of communication between the lower part of the circuitous passage to the interior of the bowl wall proper so as to provide a draft at the bottom of the tobacco, the smoke traveling upward and then over the intermediate wall and downwardly and out through the stem of the pipe.
A further purpose is the provision of means for supporting the inner tobacco receiving bowl and the intermediate bowl wall in order to insure holding the walls in position and in conformity with each other.
A still further purpose is the provision of filtering means in the outer portion of the circuitous passage to absorb the nicotine and retard the passage of ashes from following along with the smoke to the mouth and lungs of the smoker.
It is to be understood that the particulars herein given are in no way limitative and that, while still keeping within the scope of the invention, any desired modifications of detailv and desired proportions may be made in the apparatus according to the circumstances;
The invention comprises further features and combinations of parts to'be hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings: 7
The figure is a longitudinal sectional view of a smoking pipe constructed in accordance with the invention.
, Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the major portion of the stem of the pipe and 2 the mouth-piece which may be of the usual construction but provided with a reduced extension 8 for fitting engagement with the socket 4 in the major portion of the stem, there being a sleeve 5'fitting the major portion of the stem, thereby preventing the wall of the stem at'the point of the socket from cracking or otherwise becoming damaged. The major portion of the stem of the pipe has integral therewith the bowl 6, capped, as indicatedat 13, and provided with a circuitous smoke passage 14 in communication with aduct 16 in the stem.
The bowl comprises a plurality of spaced walls of which the wall 42 is the intermediate wall, the wall 45cdefining the interior surface ofthe bowl and the wall 46 the exteriorsurface, the space between the walls defining the passage 14.
The innermost wall 45 at its upper end is extended laterally and overlies the margin at the top of the outermost wall 46 and the intermediate wall is formed with an inward ly extending bulge 44 which engages the outer surface of the innermost wall and has its edge abutting the margin at the top of the outermost wall.
Perforations 47 constitute the means of communication between the interior of the bowl and that part of the passage 14 between the inner and the intermediate walls, while perforations 43 formed in the intermediate wall just below the bulge constitute the means of communication between the two sections of the circuitous passage 14.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed is:
A smoking device comprising a tobacco receiving bowl and a stem therefor having a smoke passage formed therethrough, said bowl comprising innermost, outermost and intermediate walls defining a circuitous passage from the bowl to the duct through the I stem, the innermost wall overlying the marginof the top of the outermost wall and the intermediate wall having an inwardly extending bulge which engages the outer surface of the innermost wall with its edge abutting the margin at the top of the outermost wall; i
In testimony whereof he afiixeshis signature.
