I A PAPER BOX. Nb.187,060 Patented Feb.6,18' 77.
I]. PETERS, FHDTOL|THOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON D O UNITED STATES HENRY H. SNOW, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,060., dated February 6, 18 77 application filed November 11, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY H. SNOW, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Merchandise-Boxes; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawin gs and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-- Figure 1, a perspective view with the card attached to the box, and in Fig.2 a perspective view with the card attached to the cover.
This invention relates to an improvement in display-cards for boxes of manufactured articles, such as confectionery, &c.; the object being to combine with the box, and as practically a part of it, a card which may be turned into position above the box, so as to be exposed, for the purpose of indicating the contents, or the price thereon, or for other purposes, the usual method being to make the desired marks upon a card and insert it among the contents or lay it on the surface, from whence it is liable to be removed, and frequently cause confusion.
The invention, whereby these difficulties are overcome, consists in pivoting or hinging to the box. a card of any suitable material, which, when not required for use, may be turned down upon and within the space of the side of the box to which it is attached, or turned up in the same plane above the box .when desired to be exposed.
A represents a box, which may be of any known construction or size, according to the closed. At some con venient point on the box (here represented as at one side) a card, B, is pivoted, as at a, preferably by means of an eyelet. This may be at one corner of the card, or at other convenient place, but so that, when the display is not required, the card may be turned down upon the surface of the side to which it is attached, either inside or out, as indicated in broken lines, Fig. 1.
When thus turned down it in no way interferes with transportation, but is ever ready case it is desirable that it be pivoted directly to the box; but in specifying boxes I wish to be understood to include the pivoting to the cover.
I claim- In boxes for confectionery and other articles, a display-card pivoted to the box, so as to be turned down upon the surface of the part of the box to which it is attached, or elevated in the same plane, substantially as described.
HENRY H. snow.
