Description
W. :Momnns. LABEL-HOLDERS.
No. 195,178 Patented Sept. 11. 1877 INVENTOR 65/24, 95w;
A TORNEY;
I NtPETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHEE WASHINGTQW D- Q UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILL H. SOMEBS, OF HUME,'NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO SEYMOUR L. DOUD, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN LABEL-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 195,178, dated September 11, 1877 application filed July 21, 1877.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, WILL H. SOMERS, of Hume, in the county of Allegany and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Reversible Gard-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation "of a perspectiveview of my card-holder. Fig.
2 is a perspective view of the return-card, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a reversible card-holder, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention.
This invention is particularly intended for use in sending butter, eggs, fruit, or other articles by return package or crate.
A represents a part of the box or crate. B is the card-holder, made of sheet metal or other suitable material, in the shape of an open frame, the frame being grooved in such a manner that a card, (1, may be slipped into it from the outer end.
At the inner end of the holder B are pins or a, projecting at top and bottom; or a wire may be fastened in the inner end of the frame, and its ends project to form such pins. These pins are held to the box or crate by means of staples b b, driven into the same over said pins, thus hingin g the card-holder to the box in such a manner that the holder may be turned with either side outward, and it is held by means of half-headed screws or books (1.
The card of any house to which the box or crate is to be shipped may be inserted in the holder, and on the obverse side of the card the return-address is written.
All the consignee has to do when he desires to return the package is to turn the screw or hook 421 on one side, reverse the holder, and fasten it by the screw or hook on the other side.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The reversible card-holder B, provided with the pins a, in combination with the staplesb and screws or hooks d, or their equivalents, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that 1 claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILL H. SOMERS.
Witnesses:
FRANCIS YATES, J NO. HARDING.
