Description

No. 883,734. PATENTED APR. 7, 1908. G. L. MORRISON.
FOLDED BLANK BOX. I IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII 0TI1.1907.
GEORGE L. MoRRIsoN, OE
SAMPSEL, OKLAHOMA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO PEARL M.
STORBEY, OFSAMPSEL, OKLAHOMA. v
FOLDED-BLANK BOX.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE L. MORRISON, citizen of the United States, residing at Sampsel, in the State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Folded-Blank Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
blank box constituting the preferred embodiment of my invention. Fig. 2 is a planview of the paper blank of which the box is formed. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the lower end of one end wall of the box, showing the fastener engaged with said wall. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the lower end of the other end wall of the box and showing the said fastener engaged with said wall. Fig. 4 is a section of the lower end of the box. Fig. 5 is a detail section of a modification hereinafter referred to.
Referring by letter to the said drawings, and more particularly to Figs. 1 to 4: thereof: A and B are the side walls of my novel box, and O and D are the end walls thereof, while E is a fastener through the medium of which the opposed lower ends of the end walls O and D are directly connected together to close the lower end or apex of the box. The box is formed of the blank F shown in Fig. 2; the said blank being folded on the lines a b c and (1, so as to dispose the side walls A and B at right angles to the end walls O and D and produce a box or receptacle of the configuration shown in Fig. 1. The side wall A of the box is formed of a single layer which extends throughout the area of the box side, but the side wall B is formed by an inner flap 6 in Which is provided a slot f, Figs. 1 and 2, and an outer flap g equipped at the upper end of its free edge with a tongue h. This tongue h is passed through the slot f, in the fabrication of the box, and is designed to rest parallel to and close against the inner side of the flap e so as not to detract from the capacity of the box.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. October 1, 1907.
Patented April '7, 1908.
Serial No. 395,349.
As shown in Fig. 2, and also in Fig. 4", the lower ends of the end walls O and D, which ends are preferably of obtuse angle formation, are carried slightly below the apices of the side walls A and B. Thus it will be seen that when the box is made up the said ends, which are lettered i, are opposed to each other, or in other words rest side by side, this in order to permit of the employment of a through and through fastener E and assure the tight closing of the lower end or bottom of the box.
It will be gathered from the foregoing that by reason of the arrangement described,'the tongue 7t cooperating with the slot and the fastener E in combination with the lower ends of the end walls C and D are enabled to strongly hold the box in the shape shown in Fig. 1, with the result that the box as a whole is stiff and strong and constitutes a convenient receptacle, designed to be held in the hand while pie is being eaten therefrom. It will also be gathered that the box is susceptible of expeditious manufacture, and may therefore be produced. and sold with profit for a small price.
When desired the piece of paper or cardboard of which my novel box is formed may be lined with paraffin as indicated by j in Fig. 5, or in lieu of paraffin, wax or any other lining compatible with the purpose of my invention may be provided on the inner side of the piece of paper or cardboard without involving departure from the scope of invention as defined in the claims appended.
The construction herein illustrated and described constitutes the best embodiment of my invention of which I am cognizant, but it is obvious that in the future practice of the invention such changes or modifications may be made as do not depart from the scope of the invention as herein claimed.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent 1s:
1. A folded-blank box of the sector type, comprising a side wall, a second side wall made up of la ped flaps, one of which is provided with a s 0t and the other with a tongue passed through said slot, end walls extending between the side walls and also extending below the apices of said side walls, and a fastener connecting those portions of the of the side walls.
2. In a box of the sector type, the combination with a blank shaped and folded to form a continuous sector-shaped side wall and a sector-shaped side wall made up of an inner flap having a slot adjacent to its upper end and an outer flap having a tongue at the upper end of its free edge, passed through said slot and also shaped and folded to form end Walls, disposed at right angles to the side walls and having their lower ends extended below the apices of the side walls and opposed to each other; of a through and through fastener connectin the said lower ends of the end walls direct y together.
3. A folded-blank boX of the sector type witnesses.
GEORGE L. MORRISON. Witnesses:
WILLIAM H. MANN, C. F. RUDOLPH.
