This invention pertains to a cigarette case holding device which may be attached to the instrument board of an automobile.

While driving an automobile, motorists find it inconvenient and hazardous to search in the pockets of their clothing for cigarettes, and it is an object of this invention to pro vide a. device which may be attached to the instrument board of an automobile to hold cigarettes in their ori 'nal paper cartons or in cigarette package holding cases within convenient reach of the occupants of the automobile. I

A further object is the provision of a ciga- 5 rette case holding attachment which maybe resiliently maintained in several positions to suit the convenience of the user.

These and other advantageous objects, which will later appear, are accomplished by the simple and practical construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and exhibited in the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, and in which:

Re errin to the drawing, a U-shaped r clamp mem er 5 having legs 6 and .7, is 'attached to the instrument board 9 of an automobile by the clamping action of a bolt 8 in threaded en agement with the leg 6. Fixed to e leg 7 is a U-shaped bracket 10, the legs of which are pivotally connected by means of pins 17 to the arms 11, the latter projecting laterally from the upstanding end walls of an open casing 12 having a retaining flan e 13, e5 Interpose between an end wall of casing 12 and the extremities 16 of the legs of bracket 10 is a bowed spring 14, provided with prongs 15 embracing the arms 11.

In operation, it will be seen that the above structure enables the casing 12,110 be resilis ently maintained in either of three positions, viz: one position perpendicular to the instrument board, as shown in Figure 1, and two positions parallel with the instrument board, as shown in Figure 2, the movement of the casing to the last mentioned positions being limited by the portions 18 of the bracket legs.

In one position, the spring engages the legs of bracket 10, and in the other position, the spring engages the side edges of the legs, the spring moving at all times with the arms 11.

The casin is designed to hold a cigarette package hol ing case 19 of a well known type, and the case is securely held and prevented from rattling, by a spring 20 struck out from an end wall of the casing.

From the above description it will be seen that I have provided a simple and convenient attachment for carrying cigarette package holders on the instrument board of an automobile, or an other suitable support.

The foregoing disclosure is to be regarded as descriptive and illustrative only, and not as restrictive or limitative of the invention, of which obviousl an embodiment may be constructed inclu ing many modifications without departing from the general scope herein indicated and denoted in the appended claims. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A device for supportin a cigarette case on the instrument board 0% an automobile, comprising a bracket having laterallyprojecting legs, a casing having laterally projecting arms pivotally connected with the legs, resilient means interposed between the extremities of the legs and a wall of the easing to maintain the casing in ad'usted positions, and means to attach the racket to the instrument board. 1 2.
