This invention relates to improvements in garment supporters, and more especially to a novel buckle of the type used in suspending hose from a corset. V

It is well known that the levers of such buckles are provided with toothed edges which dig into the face of the web and frill, and have a tendency to deface and tear the web. Efforts have been made to eliminate the teeth and to use a straight edged buckle lever, but such eiforts resulted in failure on account of the fact that the buckle would either slip or the lever would fly open under tension.

The primary purpose of the present invention is to provide a buckle which will eliminate these disadvantages. The improvements make the lever operate very conveniently on the web without damaging the face of it in any way, or manner. Furthermore, the improvements result in a positive grip, for the reason that the lever, while retaining a straight edge, is distorted to provide one or more rearwardly extending lugs, which prevent the lever from opening when under tension, and at the same time contribute toward holding the elastic web in firm position.

With the foregoing objects outlined and with other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features hereinafter described in detail, illustrated in the accom-' panying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims. This improvement makes the lever operate very conveniently on the web without damaging the face of it in any way or manner. It also results in the lever positively grippingthe web, forthe reason that the straight edge .is so positioned as to clamp the web between the lever. and the straight edge 24 of the back, and as the lug, 22extends furhther rearwardly, it prevents the lever from opening when under tension, and at the same time contributes materially in holding the elastic in firm position.

Obviously, the improved lever might be used with any suitable. type of back, but it ias additional advantages when used with the back shown and described.

From the foregoing it is believed that the construction, operation and advantages of the invention may be readily understood by those skilled in the art, and it is apparent that changes may be made in the details disclosed, without departing from the spirit of the invention, as expressed in the claims;

What is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:

1. A garment support buckle including a back member adapted to be connected to one end of a web and having a slot for the passage of an intermediate portion of the web therethrough, and a lever fulcru-med to the back member and including an outer hand engaging portion and a rear web engaging portion, the latter being provided with a straight edge and a rearwardly extending lug, the edge of the lug coinciding with said straight edge.

2. A garment support buckle including a back member adapted to be connected to one end of a web and having a slot for the passage of an intermediate portion of the web therethrough, and a lever fulcrumed to the back member and including an outer hand engaging portion and a rear web engaging portion, the latter being provided with a straight "edge, and a rearwardly extending lug, the edge of the lug coinciding 'with said straight edge, the lever being formed ofsheet metal and the lug being stamped therein. 7

3. A garment support buckle including a back member adapted to be connected to one end of a web and having a slot for the passage of an intermediate portion of the web the-rethrough, and a lever 'fulcrumed to the back member and including an outer hand engaging portion and a rear web engaging portion, the latter being provided with a straight edge, and a rearwardly extending lug, the edge of the lug coinciding with said straight edge, the lever being formed of sheet metal and the lug being stamped therefrom and arranged medially of the side edges of the lever.

A garment support buckle, comprising a sheet metal back member provided with teeth for clamping the end of a web to the buckle, said back member having an upper integral fulcrum bar, a straight edge, and a slot between the fulcrum bar and straight edge for the reception ofan intermediate portion of said web, anda sheet metal lever pivotally mounted on the fulcrum bar and comprising an outer hand engaging portion and a rear web engaging portion, the latter having a rearwardly projecting lug stamped therefrom, said rear web engaging portion having straight edged parts joined to the side edges of the lug and coinciding with the outer edge of the lug.

5. A garment support buckle, comprising a sheet metal back member provided with teeth for clamping the end of a web to the buckle, said back member having an upper integral fulcrum bar, a straight edge, and a slot between the fulcrum bar and straight edge for the reception of an intermediate portion of said web, and a sheet metal lever pivotally mounted on the fulcrum bar and comprising an outer hand engaging portion and a rear web engaging portion, the latter having a rearwardly projecting lug stamped therefrom, said rear web engaging portion having straight edged parts joined to the side edges of the lug and coinciding with the outer edge of the lug, cur ed portions of the lever engaging the fulcrum bar.
