Description
M. HAWI E GARMENT BUCKLE Oct. 10, 1933.
Filed May 4, 19:53
Patented Oct. 10, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in buckles, and more particularly to a novel buckle adapted for use with Suspenders, hose supporters and the like.
The primary object of the invention is to improve buckles of the type disclosed in my Patent 1,829,278, dated October 27, 1931. I have added to the upper bar of the buckle disclosed in that patent a slot for the attachment of a tape or ribbon employed to adjust the buckle when under tension, so that adjustment can be made by pulling on the tape or ribbon, instead of gripping the metal part of the buckle. Ihave also added a link to the lower part of the buckle in order that said lower part may be slid up or down on the web of the supporter during adjustment.
With the foregoing objects outlined and with other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features hereinafter described in detail,
illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and
more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing,
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a hose supporter provided with my improvements.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the improved buckle, forming part of the hose supporter.
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view of the same, taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the buckle, looking from the rear of the same.
The buckle, according to the present improvements, includes a body, preferably stamped from sheet metal and comprising an elongated frame having a transverse web receiving slot 10 above which is disposed the upper bar portion 11, provided with a slot 12 for the attachment of a manipulating tape 13.
A bar 14 is positioned below the slot and is joined to the upper bar bymeans of side bars 15 which are positioned at the ends of the frame. The bar 14 has a front portion 16 and a rear portion 17. In other words, the bar 14 is substantially U-shaped in cross section, and the portions 16 and 17 form jaws between which an end of the web 18 may be clamped. To facilitate gripping of the end of the web, the upper edge of the portion 17 may be provided with teeth 19.
The upper edge of the portion 16 is adapted to grip the web, and for this purpose, it may be provided with rounded teeth 20 designed to grip the web without biting into the latter.
In accordance with the present invention, a loop or link 21 is pivotally connected to the bar 14, and as its upper portion occupies the trough 22 at the bottom of the bar 14, said link may be secured in place when the end of the web 18 is clamped by the jaws.
It will be noted from Figs. 1, 2 and 5 that the web extends downwardly from the buckle through a link 22 of a garter element 23, and then upwardly through the slot in the link 21, over the teeth 20 and through the slot 10.
The improvement provided by the present invention makes it very convenient for the wearer of the supporter to adjust the same, as there is no lever to open or close for adjustment purposes. All of the adjusting is done without handling any of the metal parts, or detaching the supporter from the stocking. It is accomplished by pulling on the ribbon 13, up or down, as the case may be.
The present buckle can be made very cheaply, and the attachment of the web 18 and link 21 can be accomplished in one operation.
While I have disclosed what I now consider to be a preferred embodiment of the invention in such manner that the same may be readily understood by those skilled in the art, I am aware that changes may be made in the details disclosed, kwithout departing from the spirit of theinvention, as expressed in the claims.
WhatI claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A garment buckle comprising a frame consisting of connected upper, lower and side bars forming a web receiving slot therebetween, the upper bar being slotted, a manipulating tape extending through the slot of the upper bar, the lower bar having a bendable portion for gripping an end of a supporter web, and an elongated link connected to the lower bar and adapted to 1 receive a portion of the garment web.
2. A garment buckle comprising a frame consisting of connected upper, lower and side bars forming a web receiving slot therebetween, the upper bar being slotted, a manipulating tape extending through the slot of the upper bar, and the lower bar having a bendable portion for gripping an end of a supporter web, said frame being formed of a single piece of sheet metal, and an elongated link pivotally connected to the lower bar.
3. A garment supporter comprising a onepiece sheet metal frame consisting of an upper, a lower and side bars forming a slot, a manipulating tape connected to the upper bar, an elongated link connected to the lower bar, the lower bar forming clamping jaws, and a web having one of its ends secured to said jaws and another portion of said web being threaded through said link and. through said slot, and bearing against an upper edge of the lower bar.
