Description
July 4, 1933. G. PERRINE SELF LOCKING SLIDE LOOP Filed Deo. 29, 1930 el t Patented July 4, 1933 E. PEB/RENE, DECEASED, LATE OF HASTINGS-UION-EIUDSON, NEW YORK, BY ANNIE PERRINE, EXECUTRIX, OF HASTINGS-UPON-HUDSON, NEW' YORK, AS- SIGNOR T0 SCOVILL MANUFACTURING- COMANY, OF 'WATERB'U`RY, CONNECTICUT,
A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT SELF LOCKING SLIDE LOOP Application filed December 29, 1930.
The object of this invention is to provide a metallic loop which when applied to an article, such as a suspended end or strap like those used, for example, on overalls, may be adjusted on such suspender or strap to properly connect with another object, such as a button or loop on the waistband of a garment, to obtain the proper elevation of the garment, or its lit on the wearer, the loop being locked by its own mechanism in given working position.
The invention consists of a loop having a body of sheet metal provided at its upper end with a transverse slot, the body being sloped couver-gently below the slot and terminating in a hook to engage a loop on a garment to be suspended, the body having eyes at its opposite sides in which is pivoted a swinging bar that cooperates with the slotted portion ot the body to grip or clamp a suspender or strap in an adjustable manner, but which when adjusted becomes self-locking to retain the parts in adjusted position, as will now be explained more fully and finally claimed.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the invention, in the several igures of which like parts are similarly designated, Figure l is a front elevation, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the self-locking sliding loop in position on a suspender orstrap. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device detached.
The body l of the loop is made of sheet metal, and provided with transverse slot 2 near its upper end, and having the convergent sloping sides 3 which terminate in a hook i to engage with a loop 5 fast to a tab 6, which may be attached to a portion of a garment to be supported or suspended.
It is within the purview of this invention to substitute other means for engaging the loop with the suspended article.
The lower edges of the wider part of the body are provided with the eyes 7, in which are pivotally mounted the ends 8 of a swinging bar 9 which extends up across the Jfront of the body to and crosswise of the slot 2.
As shown in Fig. 2, the suspender orvstrap 10 is passed from the rear through the slot 2 and over the top of the bar 9 and thence beneath the bar and backwardly through the slot 2, so that when pressure or strain is ap- Serial No. 505,420.
plied to the strap, it will be drawn tight and pull the bar up against the body of the loop, so that the thus threaded-in suspender or strap will be engaged by the opposite edges of its slot and the bar 9, thereby gripping or clasping the suspender or strap inv the position to which the loop has been applied to the suspender or strap; it being understood that the loop may be adjusted on the suspender or strap at any point within the length of the suspender or strap to obtain the proper adjustment of the lit of the garment on the wearer. I
The bar 9 may be made of metal of angular cross section, or itv may be of circular cross section, but in any case the edge of the slot in the body so cooperates with the bar 9 as to firmly hold the parts in adjusted position.
The end l0 of the suspender or strap which is passed backwardly through the loop and slot, extends downwardly against the back of the loop and thus serves as a protection for the garment of the wearer' which comes next thereto.
The sheet metal body not covered by the strap also affords space for applying advertisements, trademarks, decorations and other matter.
Variations in the details of construction are permissible within the principle of the adjacent its upper end, and a swinging bar L pivoted to the front of the body below the slot and adapted to engage a suspender or strap by passing the suspender or strap from the back of the body forwardly through the slot and over the swinging bar and then backwardly under the swinging bar and out through the same slot, whereby under tension the loop and strap are held in adjusted position, the body of the loop terminating ina hook to engage a part to be suspended, the parts of the body not covered by the strap serving-to receive and expose advertisements, trademarks, decorations and other matter.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 23rd day of September, 1930. zf
ANNIE E. PERRINE, Eeeu'rz' of George H. Perrine., Deceased.
