Description
Jan. 12, 1943. P. E. ROSENBLATT CLASP FOR GARMENT SUPPORTERS Filed Sept. 3, 1946 INVENTOR. @fiL//NE E. PQSHVBLRW BY Patented Jan. 12, 1943 UNITED STATES 'GFFECE CLASP FOR GARMENT SUPPORTERS Pauline E. Rosenblatt, Cleveland, Ohio Application September 3, 1940, Serial No. 355,152
4 Claims.
This invention relates in general to garment supporters and more particularly to clasps for such supporters, and has for its primary object the provision of an improved, simple, practical andrelatively thin clasp adapted to firmly grip a garment and to readily and easily release same.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a clasp of the type referred to embodying a slotted cloth-receiving female member and an elongated male member having a curved end portion, said male member being adapted to be extended through the slot in said female member to permit of the lower part of the female member being gripped by the curved end portion of said male member.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a clasp of the type referred to embodying a transversely slotted, cloth receiving female member and a transversely shouldered male member having a curved end portion, said male member having its shoulder and curved end portion extended in opposite directions for two-fold locking engagement of said members when the male member is extended through the slot in said female member so that the shoulder of said male member engages one edge of said slot and the curved end portion of said male member grips the lower part of said female member.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of a clasp of the type referred to embodying a transversely slotted, cloth receiving female member and a male member having a curved end portion and a yielding, transversely arranged straight shoulder portion, said male member having its curved end portion and its shoulder portion extended in opposite directions for two-fold locking engagement between said members when the male member is extended through the slot of said female member, so that the shoulder of the male member engages one edge of said slot and the curved end of said male member grips the lower part of said female member.
With these and incidental objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combination of parts, the essential elements of which are set forth in the appended claims; and a preferred form of emclasp showing the clasp in the process of assembly prior to gripping of cloth between male and female members of said clasp.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the clasp when gripping cloth, the section being taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the cloth receiving female member of the clasp; and
Fig. 5 is a perspective View of the male member of the clasp.
Referring now in detail to the exemplified form of the invention shown in the drawing, reference numeral 2 designates a clasp including a cloth receiving female member 3 and a male member 4. Members 3 and 4 are attached to the opposite ends of an elastic webbing 5 secured to a main webbing or support e. Cloth receiving female member 3, an open, rectangularly shaped metal frame 1, has its elongated slot 8 formed with transversely arranged straight edges 9, 9', the upper edge 9 of which co-operates with the male member 4 during cloth gripping actions. Male member 4 embodies a metal base It) provided at its upper end with a slotted cross portion H, the slot l2 of which permits of attachment of said base to webbing 5. Base ID is at I l forwardly offset and provided at its lower end with a curved gripping or finger portion 15 adapted to grip the lower cross piece it of female member 3, as well be lated described. Offset portion I4 on base I!) mounts rigidly secured thereto a shoulder or looking portion ll. which extends overthe entire width of said base, has triangular cross section and is made of rubber material to insure proper yielding locking action between members 3 and 4 when assembled as shown in Fig. 3.
To secure the clasp to a stocking, same is placed between members 3 and 4 and then male member 3 is tilted and thereafter with the stocking material I8 pushed through slot 8 of member 3 until the locking portion I! of member 4 is fully extended through said slot. In this position the shoulder l 9 of locking portion [1 is opposite upper straight edge 9 of slot 8, so that the pull of webbing 5 after release of male member 4 effects contact of shoulder IS with said edge and thereafter pivotal turning of member 4 around this point of contact until the curved finger portion I5 of member 4 engages and grips cross piece 7 it of member 3. Any pull on webbing 5 is yieldingly counteracted by the yielding action of locking portion I l which co-operates with curved finger portion iii of members 3 and 4 by such pull. The grip of clasp 2 on the stocking can readily and easily be released by a lateral pull on rear portion 20 of webbing 5, such lateral pull effecting pivotal shifting of member 4 and thereafter withdrawal of said member from slot 8.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a clasp for a garment supporter the combination of a slotted cloth receiving female member, a male member, and flexible means co-operably coupling said female member with said male member, said male member including a clamping portion of substantial triangular cross section one side of which portion forms a forwardly extended straight clamping shoulder, and an attachment portion of greater width than the length of said slot extending from the rear edge of said clamping shoulder, said male member effecting clamping of a garment between said shoulder and one of the edges of said slot, when said male member with a portion of said garment is partly extended through the slot in said female member.
2. In a clasp for a garment supporter the combination of a slotted cloth receiving female member, a male member, and flexible means cooperably coupling said female member with said male member, said male member being dimensioned to be partly extended in a tilted position through the slot in said female member and formed with a rigid base, said base having a curved end portion and a clamping portion of substantial triangular cross section extended forwardly from said base, so that one side of said clamping portion forms a straight clamping shoulder, said shoulder and said curved end portion co-operating with different portions of said female member and effecting double clamping action on a garment when said male member with a portion of said garment is partly extended through the slot in said female member.
3. In a clasp for a garment supporter the comb-ination of a slotted cloth receiving female member, a male member, and flexible means co-oper ably coupling said female member with said male member, said male member being dimensioned to be partly extended in a tilted position through the slot in said female member and embodying a rigid base having a curved finger portion at its lower part and a forwardly extended portion forming a straight clamping shoulder at its upper part, said clamping shoulder during clamping operations co-operating with the upper, inner edge of said slotted female member, and said finger portion hugging the lower portion of the female member during such clamping operations thus effecting clamping of a garment at spaced points and without stretching said garment when said male member with a portion of said garment is partly extended through the slot in said female member.
4=. A clasp as described in claim 1, wherein the clamping portion of said male member is made of yielding material to effect a yielding contact of the shoulder of said clamping portion with said one edge of said slot.
PAULINE E. ROSENBLATT.
