Description

Oct. 1, 1935.
O. DOHREN BUTTON AND LOOP CLASP Filed Sept. 5; 1954 0564/" .Do/z/"erz ATTOR N EY Patented Oct. 1, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to hose supporters or garters generally and more particularly to the clasp by which the garter is secured to the stocking. In the device of the character described the clasp generally comprises a button member and a button engaging loop, both of which are cooperatively attached to the garter strap.
It is the primary object of my invention to provide an improved button, the construction of which will readily facilitate its permanent attachment to the strap or web of the garter, thus concealing all of the metallic surfaces of the button.
A further object of my invention is to provide a button-engaging loop of simple and economical construction, the formation of which adapts itself particularly to the fabrication of wire stock or similar material.
The general object of my invention is to provide in hose supporters an elongate button and a cooperating loop which may be readily attached or detached from the stocking and which in support of the stocking will minimize the danger of damage to same.
The invention will be fully and comprehensively understood from a consideration of the following detail-ed description when read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms part of the application, with the understanding, however, that the improvement is capable of extended application and is not confined to the exact showing of the drawing nor to the precise construction described and, therefore, such changes and modifications may be made therein as do not affect the spirit of the invention nor exceed the scope thereof as expressed in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail and the particular physical embodiment illustrating the invention, reference is had to the accompanying 49 drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts thruout the several views.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the garter clasp 45 with the cooperating parts separated.
Fig, 2 is a front elevational View of the garter clasp attached to a stocking.
Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are plan, end and side elevational views, respectively, of the button engaging 50 loop; and
Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional view of the button attached to the garter straps.
Referring now to the drawing for a more detailed description thereof, numeral 6 indicates a 55 garter member provided for the support of the hose from an upper garment, at the terminal end of which is secured an elongate button or bead l. A strap 8 is secured at its upper end tothe garter member 6, its lower or terminal end being provided with a hem adapted to receive a loop 9. 5
The loop 9 is formed integral with a loop H] which is formed to receive endwise the elongate button 'I. The loops 9 and it] are formed of a single piece of wire, one end of which is indicated by the numeral 9a and the loop extends from 10 this point to form the left portion of loop 9. The wire is then bent to form the loop I9, after the formation of which the wire is bent to form the right portion of loop 9. In forming the loop ID the wire is bent outwardly at the right end of 15 the latter substantially at a right angle to the main portion of the loop, and is so formed in order to provide an opening for the endwise insertion of the elongate button. A band I 2 is placed around the adjoining portions of the wire 20 which separate the loops 9 and ID, by which band a more rigid structure between loops 9 and I0 is provided.
Reference is now directed particularly to Fig. 6 in which the detailed structure of the elongate 25 button I and its attachment to the garter member 6 is illustrated. Garter member 6 is composed of two straps 6a and 6b joined together by stitching or other suitable means on a transverse line above the portion at which the button I is 30 secured. The outer portion of button 1, indicated by numeral la, is formed of rubber or other suitable resilient material and is of substantially T- shaped transverse section forming two oppositely disposed substantially parallel flanges 11). To 35 reinforce the elongate button and provide a means by which its attachment is made to the garter member 6 a T-shaped metallic member [4 is provided, the center leg of which is disposed centrally in the neck of button 1, which leg has its outer edge flared out at Ma. to effect the more secure holding of the outer portion la. The lower flanges of member M are bent over, during which bending the straps 6a and 6b are held in contact with the respective flanges, in which fashion the respective ends of the straps are securely held under the bent over flanges of the member l4. By this construction a suitably rigid elongate button isprovided, the exposed metallic surfaces of which are subsequently covered entirely by the attachment of the button to the straps of the garter member 6. Altho member I has its ends exposed, as illustrated in the drawing, it is obvious therefrom that the outer portion la of the button may be formed to cover the ends of the center leg of member M, the flanges thereof being covered by sewing or otherwise joining the proximal edges of the straps 6a and 6b.
The attachment of my garter clasp to the stocking is illustrated in Fig. 2 and is effected by holding the stocking over the elongate button I and then engaging the loop IQ onto the button by sliding same so that the parallel edges of loop l0 engage under the flanges 1b of the button. The particular advantage of this method of attachment is that it provides an elongate lineal grip upon the stocking, thus minimizing the dangers of damaging same.
What is claimed as-new is:
1. In a garter, a pair of straps, a first loop attached to one of the straps and an elongate button secured to'the other strap, a second loop adapted to receive said elongate button endwise, said first and second loops being integral and formed of a single piece of wire, said second loop being closed, but having one of its ends turned outwardly to provide an opening for the admittance of said button in said second loop.
2. In a garter, a pair of straps, a first loop attached to one of the straps and an elongate button secured to the other strap, a second loop extending from said first loop and adapted to receive said button endwise, said second loop being closed, but having one of its ends turned outwardly to provide an opening for the admittance of said button in said second loop.
3. In a garter, a pair of straps, a first loop attached to one of the straps and an, elongate button secured to the other strap, a second loop extending from said first loop and adapted to receive said button endwise, said second loop being closed, but having one of its ends ofiset to provide an opening for the admittance of said button,
