Claims, (offs-145 This invention relates to =neckties, and more particularly to the so called four-in-hand ties.

An object of the present invention is to providemean on the tie to expedite the tying of a neat, well formed knot.

A further object of the invention is the provision of afour-in-hand tie of such construction that a neat fold of material will be disposed beneath the knot each time said tie is tied. I Still a further object of my invention is to provide a four-in-hand'tie as described which may be inexpensively manufactured and which may be cleaned and pressed without necessitating special handling. 7

These and other objects are attained by the means described herein and disclosed in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 is a front plan view of a tie embodying the invention.

Fig. 3 is a front plan view of the tie looped preparatory to tying same.

Fig. 4 is a plan view of a completed knot embodying my improvement.

My invention is adapted for use with the so called four-in-hand neckties which comprise a large end portion In, a small end portion II, and an intermediate or neck band portion I2.

40 In practicing my invention, I provide two pairs of snap fasteners I4 and IE, or similar separable clasp means, to the body portion of a tie intermediate its ends.

One pair of snap fasteners M, is secured to the front of the tie, the ball portion It being disposed on one side of the longitudinal axis I! of the tie, the socket portion l8 being disposed on the opposite side of said axis. It should be noted that the ball and socket portions l6 and I8 respective- 50 1y, are disposed in close proximity to said longitudinal axis.

A second pair of snap fasteners i5, is secured to the back of the tie, preferably on the horizontal plane A-A of the fasteners I4 on the front side. As clearly shown in Fig. 2, the ball portion l9 and'so'cket portion 20 are disposed adjacent the opposite outer edges of the tie.

A tie "soprovided with sets or pairs of snap fasteners is prepared for wearing by first joining the separable elements comprising the first pair of snaps l4 whereby a'ce'ntral loop'or drape 2| is provided, as clearly shown in Fig. 6. Then the second pair of snap members l5 may be joined together wherebythe opposite edges of the tie aresecuredtogether as shown in Fig. 7. 10

In order to insure a proper and exact location of drape 2| relative to the lower edge 22 of the knot 23 so that the drape will be positioned as sh'ow'n'in Fig. 4, with each tying, a strap or loop 24 isprovided on'the back'of'intermediate porof fasteners l4 and I5 will be disposed under the knot 23 whereby to be completely concealed from view when a knot is tied.

Certain variations in the contour of drape below the lower'edge 22 of the knot may be gotten by clasping different combinations of snap fasteners, viz., if only the pair of fasteners IS, on the back of the tie are clasped a smooth well rounded drape 26 will be provided (Fig. 7) below lower edge 22 of knot 23. free from a central crease or drape. By clasping only the fasteners M, on the front of the tie, the material just below the knot will have. a neat central drape with the side edges disposed in the plane of the 40 body of the front of the tie.

From the foregoing, it is apparent that I have provided inexpensive means which may be easily secured to any four-in-hand tie to. expedite the tying of a neat, Well formed drape immediately below the knot. Further a tie provided with such means, may be easily prepared for cleaning and pressing by merely unclasping said fasteners. No special handling is required since the snap fasteners are well adapted to withstand repeated cleaning and pressing operations.

'It should be understood that various modifications and changes in the type and form of fasteners maybe made as well as other changes in the structural details, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

What is claimed is:

1. In combination with a four-in-hand necktie comprising a large end portion, a small end portion and an intermediate portion, of snap means located on said large end portion adjacent said intermediate portion for forming gatherings in said large end portion, said means comprising two pairs of separable snap fasteners, the fasteners comprising one pair being located on the front of and on opposite sides of and adjacent to the longitudinal axis of said tie, the second pair disposed on the back of and adjacent to the outer edge of the tie and in horizontal alignment with the first pair of fasteners, and means carried on the back of said intermediate portion to locate the gatherings formed when said pairs of fasteners are clasped together relative to the lower edge of the knot formed in said tie, said means comprising a loop permanently secured to said intermediate portion through which the large end of said tie is passed to determine the point where the large and small portions of the tie cross each other for locating the knot in proper relationship with said gathered portions.-

In combination witha four-in-hand necktie comprising a largeend portion, a small end portion and an intermediate portion, of two pairs of separable, spaced fastening means secured to the large end portion adjacent said intermediate portion, the fasteners comprising one pair being mounted on the front of said tie on opposite sides of the longitudinal center line of said tie, the fasteners comprising the second pair being mounted on the back of and adjacent to the outer edge of said tie, the fastening means comprising each pair adapted to be independently clasped together to provide preshaped gatherings in said large end portion, and means permanently secured to the back of said intermediate portion to positively locate said preshaped gatherings relative to the lower edge of said knot.

In combination with a four-in-hand necktie comprising a large end portion, a small end portion and an intermediate portion, of snap means located on said large end portion adjacent said intermediate portion for forming gatherings in said large end portion, said means comprising two pairs of separable snap fasteners, the fasteners comprising one pair being disposed on the front of the tie and located one each adjacent to and on opposite sides of the longitudinal axis of said tie, the fasteners comprising the second pair being disposed on the back of the tie, and located one each adjacent the outer edge of the tie, the fasteners comprising each pair being disposed in a plane at substantial right angles to said longitudinal axis, and means carried on the back of said intermediate portion to locate the gatherings formed when said pair of fasteners are clasped together relative to the lower edge of the knot formed in said tie, said means comprising a loop permanently secured to said intermediate portion through which the large end of said tie is passed to determine the point where the large and small portions of the tie cross each other for locating the knot in proper relationship with said gathered portions.
