Description
April 5, 1932. l GEORGE 1,852,114
LINGERIE CLASP Filed Jan. 16, 1930 Patented Apr. 5, 1932 V UNITED STATES CARRIE A. GEORGE, OF HAMMOND, INDIANA LINGERIE GIiASP Application filed January 16, 1930'. Serial No. 421, 1 78.
The present invention relates to improvements in lingerie clasps, and has for an object to provide an improved device for preventing lingerie straps from falling down over the shoulder.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved device, which may be easily adjusted and quickly transferred from one dress to another; and which will also be subin ject to easy removal from dresses and house aprons when the same are to be laundered.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved device which will avoid any sewing in connection with the application of J the invention; in which no pulling, binding or uncomfortable feeling will be occasioned the wearer, and in which the device is compact and entirely concealed in the shoulder seam of the dress.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention will be more fully described hereinafter, and will be more particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.
In the drawings, wherein like symbols refer to like or corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a wearer and garment with the improved device applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view of a garment and lingerie shoulder strap with the improved device applied and shown in top plan.
Figure 3 is a side view of the clasp em-' ployed.
Figure 4 is a bottom edge view of the same.
Figure 5 is a longitudinal section taken therethrough along the line 5-5 in Figure 3, and
Figure 6 is a cross section taken on the line 66 also in Figure 3.
Referring more particularly to the drawings 1O designates a dress, apron or other outer garment, and 11 represents thelingerie shoulder strap extending over the shoulder of the wearer beneath the garment 10, such garment being illustrated as broken away in Fi ures 1 and 2, to reveal the shoulder strap.
The clasp consists of a bar 15 having the longitudinal downturned flanges 16 and 17 which are disposed at substantially right angles to the bar 15 and form an inverted channel construction acting to reinforce and strengthen the bar and also to form confining devices for the corrugated strip 18, which lies within the channel and has a bowed wavy intermediate portion adapted to extend down below the confines of the flanges 16 and 17 whereby to yieldably engage the shoulder strap 11. The bar 15 and its flanges 16 and 17 are extended down at-right angles atone end of the clasp as shown at 19 and at the lower end of such portion 19 these parts are bent reversely to provide'a hook 20 for the engagement of the end of the pin21, which is formed in the same piece with the strip 18 and is connected therewith by the connecting loop 22 which passes about a transverse member 23 formed from the side flanges 16 and 17 adjacent the opposite end of the clasp. A down-turnedterminal 'end 24e on the strip 18 is confined within the leg 19 0f the clasp or any other appropriate clasp without departing from the spirit thereof and acts as an 913 abutment for the strip and a reinforce for the leg 19.
In the use of the device, the safety pin 12 is inserted longitudinally of the seam 13 0f the garment 10 near the neck with the chain 14 extending downwardly toward the arm and clasp lying in the path of the shoulder strap 11 of the lingerie about which it is secured by opening the pin 21. When the pin 21 is again inserted in the hook or catch 20,
the strap 11 is held firmly between the pin 21 and the bowed portion of the strip 18. The clasp can thus be shifted along the strap 11, but the clasp will resist any ready movement along the shoulder strap.
The device will restrain the strap 11 from falling down over the shoulder. It can be easily adjusted to a proper posit-ion and it can be transferred from one outer garment 10 to the other by simply manipulating the safety pin 12. The device is wholly concealed beneath the dress, is comfortable and gives entire freedom to the wearer.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
' What is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described, a safety pin having a spring eye in one end, a shoulder strap clasp having an upper bar portion for engagement across the upper sides of shoulder straps and a spring pin portion curved downwardly from one end of the upper bar portion and detachably engaging the opposite end thereof and adapted to pass beneath said shoulder straps for clamping the samefagainstthe bar portion, and a flexible connecting chain disposed between the safety pin and the clasp and having end links adaptedonefor engagement through the spring eye of the safety pin and the other link adapted for engagement over the spring pin portion of the clasp and on the downwardly curved end thereof for anchoring the clasp to the safety pin and maintaining the flexible chain in longitudinal alignment therewith.
2. A shoulder strap clasp adapted to be anchored on the end of a chain having a closed link at its extremity, comprising a channel bar adapted to engageover a shoulder strap, a yieldable strip having corrugations and disposed within the channel bar and projecting below the same for contact with the shoulder strap, said strip having at one end a downwardly curved and overturned pin portion providing an exposed loop at one end of the clasp, adapted to engage through the end link of the chain, said channel bar having a downwardly returned opposite end portion providing a guard adapted to receive the free end of said pin portion and said pin portion spaced below the corrugated portion of said strip for engagement beneath the shoulder strap to clamp the same against the strip.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CARRIE A. GEORGE.
