COMBINATION TIE AND COLLAR SUPPORT Filed Mgzrch 28, 1932 fizvemz of I GEOEGE EM /fiEEN Patented Aug. 30, 1932 @NtT-ED STTES Ear GEORGE E. MCKEEN, F MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA COMBINATION TIE AND COLLAR SUPPORT Application filed March 28,
combination tie and. collar support comprising a cross bar adapted to be fitted between the collar band and the tie knot and having legs provided with means adapted to engage 19 the points or corners of a collar whereby said corners will be prevented from rolling upwardly and excessively spreading.
A further object is to provide a' device of the class described comprising a cross bar, and a pair of spaced resilient legs having means at their lower ends for engaging the points of the collar to secure the latter thereto, and recesses being provided at the junctures between said cross bar and said legs 33 adapted to receive the tie band, whereby the tie will be firmly held in place in the collar and the points of the collar will also be re-; tained in proper position.
A further object is to provide an inexpen- 53 sive combination tie and collar support constructed of a single strand of spring wire and having means for engaging the points of the collar, and other means for engaging the collar and tie bands, whereby the collar and tie may be retained in their proper places upon the wearer.
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following description and accompanying drawing and will be pointed out in the annexed claims.
In theaccornpanying drawing, there has been disclosed a structure designed to carry out the various objects of the invention, but it is to be understood that the invention is not confined to the exact features shown as various changes may be made within the scope of the claims which follow:
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a view showing the device at tached to a collar;
Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the device removed from the collar;
Figure 3 is an enlarged cross sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 1, showing the tie 1932. Serial No. 601,588
band fitted into the recesses provided at the upper portion of the device; and
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail showing the means provided at the lower ends of the legs for engaging the collar.
In the selected embodiment of the invention here shown, for purposes of disclosure, there is illustrated in Figures 1 and 3, a collar 2 comprising the usual points or corners 3 and neck band 4. A tie 5 is shown in combination with the collar and comprises the usual knot 6 and the tie band 7.
The novel device featured in this invention is best shown in Figure 2, and comprises a cross bar 8 which referably is curved as shown, and is provi ed at its ends with suitable recesses 9 and a pair of resilient legs 11.
The device is made from a single strand of spring wire which is bent as shown in'Fig. 2,
so as to provide upstanding portions 12, each of which defines a wall of one of the recesses 9. These recesses are adapted to receive the tie band 7, as shown in Figure 3.
The terminals 13 at the free ends of the legs 11 are sharpened whereby they may penetrate the material of the collar, as shown at 14 in Figure 3, so as to retain the device in proper position upon the collar. The end portions of the legs 11 are preferably bent so as to form loops 15, having their upper portions 16 substantially horizontally disposed as shown in Figure 4, so as to limit the penetration of the terminals 13.
In use, the device is attached to the collar as shown in Figure 1. To thus attach the device to the collar, the cross bar 8 is inserted between the collar band 4 and the tie band 7,
as shown in Figure 3, whereby the portions 12 at the upper ends of the legs 11 will be positioned between the body 2 of the collar and the tie band 7. The terminals 13 are then inserted into the material of the collar points 3, as shown at 14 in Figure 3. When the device is attached to the collar vas above described, the tie knot 6 cannot slide downward- 1y out of place, and the points or corners 3 of the collar will always be held in their normal straight positions by the legs 11, as shown in Figure 1.
The points 13 are preferably inserted into not be seen when in use.
the usual seams provided at the edges of the collar, as shown in Figure 1, so as not to pierce the collar. When the legs are thus positioned, the device will be concealed by the wings of the collar and the tie so that it can- The cross bar 8 is shaped so that it may readily and quickly be inserted between the collar and tie bands, after which the terminals 13 of the leg 11 are engaged with the points of the collar, as shown in Figures 1 and 3. The recesses 9 provided at the upper portion of the device are very important in that they receive the tie band and cooperate to hold it in place in the upper fold of the collar, as shown in Figure 3, which makes it impossible for the tie to become disarranged. The extreme simplicity of the device is such that it may be manue factured at a very small cost, as compared to devices of this general character now in use.
I claimas my invention 1. A combination tie and collar support formed from a single strand of wire and comprising a cross bar provided with legs extending downwardly therefrom, means at the ends of said legs for securing them to a soft collar adjacent the corners or points thereof, and said cross bar being provided at its ends with suitable recesses adapted to receive the lower edge of a neck tie band to thereby retain said band in position in the upper portion of the collar.
2. A combination tieandcollar support formed from a single strand of wire and comprising a cross bar adapted to be fitted between a tie knot and the neck band of a operating to form U-shaped recesses adapted to receive the lower edge of a necktie band, said upwardly bent portions having resilient legs extending downwardly therefrom and provided with terminal hooks adapted to engage the material of the collar adjacent to the lower corners or points thereof, whereby the collar points will be held in proper place and the tie band and knot will also be retained in place in the upper portion of the collar, and means for limiting the penetration of said terminal hooks in the material of the collar.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 25 day of March, 1932.
GEORGE E. McKEEN.
collar or shirt, said cross bar having means portion of the collar and also to hold the depending corners or joints of the collar in proper place.- i
3. A combination tie and collar support comprising a cross bar adapted to be fitted between a tie band and the neck band of a collar or shirt, said cross bar being provided at its ends with downwardly, and outwardly, and u wardly ,bent portions cooperating to form -shaped recesses adapted to receive the lower edge of a neck tie band, and said crossbar having downwardly extending resilient legs provided with terminal hooks adapted to engage the material of the collar adjacent to the lower corners or points thereof, whereby the collarpoints will be held in proper place and the tie band and knot will
