This invention relates to improvements in safety apron for infants and young children.

An object of the invention is to provide an improved safety apron for infants and young children which will be formed with front and back portions, together with a neck or head opening and securing tapes attached to the opposite sides of the front and back portions of the apron for tying the infant or child in a chair, thereby doing away with the necessity of having a high chair.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved form of safety apron for infants and young children which may be formed with a front portion and a back portion of even or'uneven lengths, the back portion of which will underlie the infant or child when seated in a chair to assist in holding the child in the chair when the tie tapes secured to the apron are secured to the arms of said chair.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved form of safety apron which will include inter-connected front and back portions having a neck or head opening formed therein, together with means for closing the neck opening after the apron is placed on an infant, and ties or tapes secured to the opposite sides of the rear portion of the apron wherebyan infant may be securely ti d in a chair other than a high chair, or the apron may be used as a sleeping garment and the ties or tapes secured to the sides of a bed or crib to hold the infant securely thereon.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved safety apron for infants or children which will include front and rear portions of any desired length, together with means for securing the apron about the wearers neck and additional means for attaching the apron to the arms of a chair for holding the infant securely in the chair.

Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the im proved safety apron in position upon an infant sitting in a chair, with the ties or tapes which are attached to the opposite sides of the apron being secured to the arms of the chair;

Figure 3 is rear view of a child sitting in a chair with the improved safety apron position upon it, with the tics or tapes secured to oppo site sides of said apron being attached to the chair arms back rung of the chair;

Like characters of reference are,usedthroughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.

In carrying out the invention, there is pro vided an imroved form of safety apron or bib which will include an elongated strip of material forming a body generally designated by the reference numeral i, the same being preferably widened adjacent its opposite ends to form a front portion 2 and a rear or back portion 3.

2 and 3 are rounded, and the edge of the body is suitably reinforced by one or more lines of stitching extending inwardly a slight distance from the edge of said body.

The back portion 3 is of suflicient length to extend below the waist of an infant when in position, so that the lower end of said back portion will be disposed underv the infant and held by it when seated in a chair 8. If desired, the back portion 3 may be out on" at waist length, as indicated by the reference numeral 9 in Figures 3 and 4;, thereby providing a front elongated portion 2 which will act as an apron and bib.

A neck opening it will be formed in the body portion l of the safety apron and will be provided with a V slit 3!) in the back portion 3 thereof, being closable by the tie tapes M, or if desired a side slit 52 may also be formed in the body I to extend laterally over the shoulder engaging portion of the apron, the said side slit being secured in closed position by means of the separable snap fasteners is secured to the oppo" site portions thereof.

2 and 3 of the apron, and are adapted to encircle the arms l5 of a chair 8 and to be tied thereto, after which the outer ends of the tapes it may be extended inwardly and tied to a rung 3 iii of the chair back. It may be desirable to employ a double tape I! at either side of the body member, the same being illustrated in Figure 7 of the drawings. 1

The safety apron serves as a protector and bib for an infant or child when seated in a chair,

with positive means being provided for tying the child in the chair so that it will not be able to stand upon the chair or fall therefrom.

The improved safety apron also serves the purpose of a sleeping garment when placed on an infant and the infant is placed upon a bed or crib and the securing tapes made fast to a portion of the bed or crib. The ties being disposed at the opposite sides of the apron removes any possibility of the infant becoming entangled with the tapes;

From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that a highly efficient form of safety apron, bib and sleeping garment has been devised, the same. being adjustable to fit various sizes of children from infant ass up to several years of age, and said apron being made with a waist length back portion or with a full length back portion when it is desired to have an infant sit upon the apron when placed in a chair to prevent it'from standing up in the chair, thus when the ties are secured to the chair furnishing a positive means for holding the infant in the chair.

While the preferred embodiment of the instant invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention thereto, as many minor changes indetail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described my invention what I- claim. as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent Of the United States is: I

l. A combined safety apron and bib including a body formed with an elongated central portion of reduced width having parallel sides adapted to engage the shoulders of a wearer and oppositely longitudinally extending outwardly flared front and back continuations thereof constituting a bib adapted to engage the chest and legs of a seated wearer and an anchoring portion adapted to engage the back of a wearer and to besat. upon by the wearer when seated in a chair,

tionbeing. adapted to cover the back of a seated wearer and to be anchored'by the seated wearer, elongated ties secured at oneof their ends to the opposing longitudinal side edges of the front continuation and registerable similar ties secured at one of their ends to the opposing longitudinal side edges of the back continuation, said registerable front and back ties being adapted for joining the front and back continuations together under the arms of a wearer and the outer ends of saidities being adapted to be secured around and to a chair back.
