, Our invention relates to garments `and has as one of the principal objects thereof the provision of a garment capable of performing a dual purpose, namely, to act as a bib for a child and at the same time serve as a restraining device for holding a child in a high chair or street conveyance so that the child can 'not fall therefrom. Another object of our invention is to provide a garment of the character described which while purpose causes no discomffort to the child with the result that it not only prevents injury to said child but has a tendency to strengthen the childs back and at the same time relieves the anxiety of the nurse or mother and allows herpto perform her household duties without interference from the child or the latter requiring attention.

A further object of our invention is toprovide a garment of the character described that can be easily and expeditiously applied to a child and secured to a chair or the like as well as removed therefrom with very little effort.

An important object of our invention is to provide a garment of the character described con. :5 structed of washable material thereby maximizing sanitation which is highly desirable in the raising and care of infants.

Another`important object of our inventionis to provide a garment of the character described :11) which is simple in construction, durable in use,

efficient in operation and economical in manufacture.

. Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims 3.3 and annexed drawing.

Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of our invention 40 illustrating the same as applied to ahigh'chair and securing a child therein. y Figure 2 is a top plan view of our invention illustrating the same in extended position.

Figure 3 is a plan view of one of the rings for 4.3 attaching the garment to a high chair and illustrating said ring in open position.

Figure 4 is a side elevation of said ring illustrat` ing the latter in closed position.

Figure 5 is a plan view of a snap hook capable t0 of being used in lieu of the ring illustrated in Figures 3 and 4, principally on a street child conveyance or also with proper adjustable straps attached to bed rails to prevent a child from falling from bed.

55 In practicing our invention, we provide a garment constituting an elongated body 5 constructed of washable and pliable material, for instance, canvas or the like. Said body is fashioned intermediate the ends thereof with a bibsection 6 and which terminates at the lower end in a seat 5 section 1 and at the upperor opposite end in a \neck section 8. The neck section 8 is fastened with a pair of arcuate shaped flaps 9 defining a neck opening I0 therebetween and having ends adapted to connect together about the neck of a child by means of a button and buttonhole II- and I2 secured and fashioned therein respectively as illustrated in Figure l.` Adjacent the ends thereof, the flaps are provided with adjustable straps I3, the outer ends of which have secured thereto rings I4 having pivotable sections I5 which are provided with coating locking ends I6 as clearly illustrated in Figures 3 and 4 of the drawing. The rings I4 are `adapted to be at- 'tachedabout the vertically extending side rails I1 of a high chair I8 whereby to secure the back of the child in position against the back of the chair.

The bib section G subjacent the neck section 8 is provided with a pair of spaced arm openings I9 through which the arms of the child extend and said bib section above the jointure with the seat section is fashioned with a leg opening 2liy through which the legs of the child extend and depend downwardly over the front of the seat 2l of said chair. Adjacent the upper end of the leg aperture, the bib section has secured thereto the upper end of an adjustable strap 22, the lower end of which is provided with a. ring 23 of a similar construction as the rings I4 and which is attachableto the horizontally extending rung 24 of the chair between the front legs thereof and subjacent the seat 2l. Said strap 22 extends downwardly from the bib section between the legs of the child and thereby precludes the body of the child from slipping forwardly or outwardly through the aperture 20. The seat portion or section is disposed inwardly at an angle relative to the bib section and overlies the seat 2| for accommodating thereon the body of the chud.- The 45 rearwardly extending end of the seatsection l has secured thereto upper ends of adjustable spaced straps 25, the lower ends of which are provided with rings 26 of a similar construction as the rings I4. The rings 26 are attached about the horizontally disposed rear rung 2l between the rear legs of the chair and subjacent the seat 2|. Adjacent the .ends of the straps I3 connected to the flaps 9 are the` connected ends of tapes 28, the outer ends of which are adapted to be tied 55 about the rails I1 as clearly illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawing.

From the foregoing it will be apparent that we have provided a safe and efficient garment .whereby infants and the like may be securely maintained in a high chair or go-cart and that through the medium of the straps of said garment the same may be readily adjusted to accommodate infants of various sizes relative to the sizes of chairs used.

As illustrated in Figure 5 of the drawing, the ends of the straps may have secured thereto, in lieu of the rings heretofore described, snap hooks 30. Said snap hooks are adaptable to engage rings or other like elements secured to chairs or other articles of street conveyance on which it is desired to seat the infant.

It is obvious that the invention is not confined to the herein described use therefor as it may be utilized for any purpose to which it is adaptable. It is therefore to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific construction as illustrated and described, as the same is only illustrative of the principles of operation which are capable of extended application in advance forms, and that the invention comprehends all construe tion within the scope of the appended claims.

What we claim is:

1. A garment of the class described, comprising, a body formed with a bib section terminating at one end in an angular disposed seat section and at the opposite end in a neck section, said neck section fashioned with arcuate shaped shoulder aps defining a neck opening therebetween and having ends adapted to button about the neck of a child, said ends having adjustable straps provided with fastening elements for attachment to the vertical side rails of a chair, said bib section having spaced arm openings for receiving therethrough the arms of said child and provided with a leg aperture adjacent the jointure with said seat section whereby to dispose said seat section under said child and on the seat of said chair, a strap connected to said bib section adjacent said aperture and depending downwardly therefrom and adapted to interpose the legs of an infant and formed with a fastening element adapted to attach said strap to the horizontal front rung of said chair whereby to preclude forward sliding movement of said child from under said bib section, said seat section equipped with a pair of adjustable straps having depending ends provided with fastening elements for attachment to the horizontal rear rung of a chair whereby to maintain said seat section under said child and overlying the seat of said chair.

Agarment of. the class described, comprising, a body formed with a bib section terminating .at one end in an angular disposed seat section and at the opposite end in a neck section, said neck section fashioned with arcuate shaped shoulder flaps defining a neck opening therebetween and having ends adapted to button about the neck of a child, said ends having adjustable straps provided with fastening elements for attachment to the vertical side rails of a chair, said bib section having spaced arm openings for receiving therethrough the arms of said child and provided with a leg aperture adjacent the jointure with said seat section whereby to dispose said seat section under said child and on the seat of said chair, a strap connected to said bib section adjacent said aperture and depending downwardly therefrom and adapted to interpose the legs of an infant and formed with a fastening element adapted to attach said strap to the horizontal rung of said chair whereby to preclude forward sliding movement of said child from under said bib section, said seat section equipped with a pair of-adjustable straps having depending ends provided with fastening elements for attachment to the horizontal rear rung of a chair whereby to maintain said seat section under said child and overlying the seat of said chair, and a pair of tapes secured to said flaps and adapted to be connected to said vertical rails of said chair` and coact with said first mentioned straps for maintaining said child in an upright position against the back of said chair.
