IMPROVEMENT m OVERALLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,155, dated May 30, 1876; application filed April 28, 1876.
- of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvement in Overalls and Pantaloons, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to so construct a pair of pantaloons or overalls as that they will adjust themselves to and be self-supporting on men of varying girths, and will yield to strains in the directions which theywill naturally come from in sitting, stooping forward, or in spreading the legs, without danger of tearing or ripping the seams.
Figures 1 and 2 are, respectively, rear and front elevations of a pair of overalls embodying my improvement.
In the drawing, A represents a pair of overalls, of which B is the belt, in the middle of the back of which is inserted the head a of a cross-shaped piece of elastic rubber webbing, O, the lower part of which, 12, is inserted in the seat seam down and around in front to the end of the crotch at the lower end of the fly. The arms a c of the cross-shaped webbing are inserted in cuts horizontally made in the small of the back, as seen in Fig.1.
Although the webbing is shown cut in a single piece, it is evident that the parts a b 0 may be cut in separate pieces and stitched together.
The part a draws the belt around the waist of the person to sustain the garment, and will yield, as well as the part b, to any strain tending to expand the seat and waist laterally, while the part 0 will yield to a strain put upon the seat in stooping forward;
The rubber webbing can be washed with the rest of the garment without impairing its elasticity, and is equally serviceable for use in pantaloons where an easy fit is desired.
What I claim as my invention is- The combination, with the overalls or pan taloons A and waistband B, of the crossshaped elastic webbing 0, consisting of the part a, inserted in the middle of the back of the said belt, the part 1), extending the entire length of the seat-seam, and the arms 0 c, in serted in horizontal outs below the waistband, all constructed and arranged substantially as described and shown.
