Description

Ot. 7, 1930. v. VRYN 1,777,707
HAIR WAVING DEVICE Filed Feb. 6, 1930 INVENTOR I IcToR lfi/A/ ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 7, 1930 UNITED STATES- VICTOR VRYN, or JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR-TO npeoommua 'son s lrtog or NEW YORK, N. Y., A conronarron or NEW YOR HAIR-WAVING DEVICE Application filed February a, 1930., seriarnmma'aa This invention relates to a hairwaving device comprising two pivotally connected cooperating members between which the hair is clamped to form an undulation therein, and more particularly to an improvement in the type of device shown and described in the patent application of Abraham Goodman and Jacob Goodman filed April 19, 1928, Serial No. 271,123.
The principal object of the present im provement is to provide simple and easily operated means for positively locking or engaging the co-operating members of the device in their clamping position.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings illustrating a preferred embodiment thereof, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the device with its two co-operating members in clamping position;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof;
Fig. 3, is an enlarged sectional view of one end of the device showing the pivotal connection of the two members;
Fig. 4 is a similar view of the other end showing the means for locking the members in clamping position; and,
Fig. 5 is a section through the locking means taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
The device comprises two co-operating members and 11, pivotally connected together to permit of, movement one toward the other. The member 10 serves as a support for the hair, on which it is held in wave form, while the member 11 acts as a clamp to hold the hair on the support until the l7 tions that extend lengthwise of the. member 10 but are spaced laterally therefrom, and a constricted end loop 12 having straight parallel sides 13 that extend outward beyond the corresponding end of the member 10.
Mounted to move longitudinally on the end loop 12 is a slide 14. Said slide has its end portions bent to form sleeves 15 for connecting the slide to the portions 14 of the loop, and an intermediate portion 16 bent downwardly and at a right angle to provide a hook 17 which is adapted to engage under the lip or flange 18 at the end of the member 10 so as to positively lock theparts together in their clampin position.
The wire-1i e member 11 is connected to one end of the member 10 b bending the extremities of the wire inward y and passing them through the opposed-holes 19 in said end of the member 10 as indicated in Fig. 3. The pivotal connection thus formed permits the wire-like member 11 to be swung up and down relatively to the member 10. A cover plate 20 is cemented or otherwise secured over the pivotal connection to conceal the same and prevent the bent ends of the wire from catching in the hair.
Various modifications in the details of construction herein illustrated and described may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the claims.
What I claim is 1. In a device of the character described, a longitudinally arched member, a wire-like member pivotally connected to one end thereof and extending parallel to but spaced from its sides, said wire-like member terminating at one end in a loop having straight parallel sides which loop projects outwardly beyond the adj acent end of the first-mentioned member, and a catch slidably mounted on the loop for fastening said members in closed position.
2. In a device of the character described, a longitudinally arched member having a flange at one end, a wire-like member pivotally connected to the opposite end thereof and extending parallel to but spaced from the sides of said member, the wire-like member terminating in a loop having straight, parallel sides which loop projects outwardly beyond the flanged end of the first-mentioned v member, and a catch slidably mounted on the loop and enga eable under the flange to fasten the mem% tion.
ers together in closed posi- M 3. In a device of the character described, a longitudinally arched member, a wire-like member pivotally connected to one end there-' of and extending parallel to but spaced from the sides of said member, the wire-like member terminating in a loop having parallel sides which loop extends outwardly beyond the adjacent end of the first mentioned member, and a catch having sleeve-like portions that are slidably supported on the arms. 01
the loop and a downwardly bent hook-like portion adapted to engage under an end of the first-mentioned member to fasten said members in closed position.
