A. O. ALSAGER IRONING BOARD COVER FASTENER Filed Feb. 24, 1923 ATTORNEY Patented Jan. 26, 1926..
um'r' AT .1]. S
ARNE O. ALSAGER, 0F WILLOVT CREEK TOWNSHIP, LEE COUNTY, ILLINOIS.
IRONING-IBOAED-COVER FASTENER.
Application filed February 24, 1923. Serial No. 621,002.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARNE O. ALsAoER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Willow Creek- Township, Lee County, and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Board- Cover Fasteners, of which thefollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for detachably fastening covers upon ironing boards, and an object of the invention is to provide a spring clamping structure which may be quickly and easily attached to the under surface of an ironing board and embodies gripping members for engaging the side of the ironing board and cover to hold the cover in place.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein Fig. 1 is a fragmentary bottom plan of an ironing board showing the improved cover fastener applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a detail section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detail cross section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of a part of the cover fastener structure.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the cover fastener comprises a substantially channel member 1 which is suitably attached to the under side of an ironing board 2. The rip-standing sides 3 of the member 1 are sen'ii-circular in shape and are provided with suitable openings 4 which receive therethrough the angled ends 5 and 6 of the operating members 7 The operating member 7 is formed of wire and it has its ends 5 and 6 bent transversely while an extension 8 is formed upon the end 6 for engagement along one of the sides 3 to prevent aocidental disconnection of the members 7 and 1. The bight portion 9 of the operating member 7 has a loop 10 formed therein to which a spiral spring 12 is connected. The spiral spring 12 is also con nected to the end 13 of the gripper 14. The gripper 14 is formed of a single length of wire and comprises leg portions 15 and 16 which are bent to flare outwardly as shown at 17. The terminal portions 18 of the outwardly flared portions 17 are bent transversely and are adapted to engage against a cover along the edge of the ironing board 2 to hold the cover securely in place when the operating member 7 is sprung or moved down into the position shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
When it is desired to remove the cover, the member 7 is moved on its pivotal connection with the sides 3 to release the tension on the spring 12 which also releases the gripping action of the ends 18 allowing the cover to be removed. By particular reference to Fig. 3 it will be noted that the spring 12 is housed between the sides 3 when the device is applied and that none of the structure projects beyond the outermost portions of the sides 3.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in other manners and the parts associated in different relations and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is 1. A cover fastener for ironing boards including an operating member, having its ends bent transversely, an extension projecting from one of said ends, the bight portion of said member being bent inwardly to form a loop, a coil springconnected to said loop, a gripping member connected to said spring and means for pivotally connecting the operating member to an ironing board.
2. In an ironing board and a removable cover therefor, a fastener including a gripper having laterally bent ends for clamping the cover to the board, a channel member attached to the board, an operating member pivotally connected to said channel member and a spring having its outer end connected to the inner end of the gripper and its inner end connected to the free end of the operating member, whereby movement of the operating member about its pivotal axis inwardly toward the board will move said gripper into clamping engagement with the cover and board.
In testimony whereof I affix my si nature.
ARNE o. ALsAeER.
