PATENT OFFICE.
7 CHARLES LORBER, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
KEY
CASE.
Application filed February 28, 1925. Serial No. 12,362.
. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that CHARLES LORBER, citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, has invented certain new and useful Improvements-in Key Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to what are 00111- monly known as key cases.
More particularly the invention relates to an improvement in the key case shown in my copending application for patent filed May 26, 1924, bearing the Serial Number 715,892.
The principal object of the present invention is to so improve the construction of such key cases'as will enable my improved key holder ring, as described in said 00 ending application, to be utilized for ho dlng the key hook thereby making the connection between the key case and key of a more flexible nature, while at the same time retaining the advantages inherent in the construction of said copending application- A second important object of the'invention is to provide an improved form of key hook for use in this connection.
With the above and other objects in view.
as will beghereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel de tails of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed. In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the illustratinga modified form of the inventhe key hook.
tion.
Figure 4 is a view showing a modified key hook.
Figure 5 shows a second modification of Figure 6 shows a third modification thereof.
Figure 7 shows a modified form of key ring.
Figure 8 shows a second key ring.
modification of Figure 9 shows a third modification thereof.
Figure 10 is a view of. a still further modification of the hook.
In the present embodiment of the ihven tion there is shown a case of leather or the like having a casing consisting of a back 10 and front flaps 11 which may be held in folded position by the snap fastening members 13. At the top of the back is abase plate 14 which is secured to the back by rivets 15. This base plate has at its upper edge a tubular portion 16 provided at intervals with transverse slots 17. Extending into these slots are the shanks 18 of split which extends side portions, 22 each turned up at its lower end to form a hook 23. It will be observed that in each case one of the hooks lies within and close to the opposed side portion while the other hook lies without and close to the opposed sideportion.
Also it will be observed that the eye 21 may be made simply by crimping the metal as at 24 in Figures 3, land 6, or it may be made as a complete convolution as at 25 in Figure 5. Also the side 22 may be crimped as at 26 in Figure 4 to receive the bill of the outer hook. s
In the form of hook shown in Figure 10 the inner bill 23 does not form a complete hook but lies against the outer bill. ther, in this form the crimp 22 also lies against the outer bill which is curved and uncrimped.
It will be notedthat in an of th'ese forms the member connecting the hooks to the plate, which, for convenience is termed the intermediate member, is a split ring and the peculiar bill arrangementpf the hook is common to all forms. Thus the hooks are easily detached from the intermediate Furmembers when desired and the ke s, when engaged on the hooks, cannot wel become accidentally disengaged. In addition it will be seen that the eye portion 21 maybe twisted with respect to the bill portion as shown in Figure 3 so that the key hook and intermediate member may both lie substantially flat in the case when the latter is closed.
There has thus been provided a simple and efiicient device of the kind described and for thepurpose specified.
It is obvious that mlnor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material spirit thereof. It is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is desired to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is: i
1. A key hook for key cases consisting of a single length ofwire bent intermediate its ends to form an eye and having side portions each turned up at its extremity to form a hook bill fitting closely against the other side portion, one of said bills fitting 2. A hook for key cases having at oneend I an eye and provided with a side portion bent to form a hook having a smoothly curved' bill, the hook also having a second side portion crimped intermediate its ends to engage the inner side of said bill and having an outturned terminal portion also engaging the inner side of the first side portion.
In testimony whereof 'I aflix my signature.
CHARLES LORBER.
