Description

1. G. B. ADAMS.
. DETONATING TOY'.
No. 177,316. Patented May16,1876;
lugws' Jnzfverz Zar NPETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHEH, WASHINGTON, D C.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GEORGE B. ADAMS, OFA NEWARK, JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO JOSEPH A. HALLIDAY AND ADAM M. HALLIDAY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT iIN DETQNATINGv TOYS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,316, dated May 16, 1876; application filed .February 26,1876.
To all whom it may concern l Be it known that I, GEORGE B. ADAMS, of Newark, iu the county of Essex and State of NewJersey, have invented a certain Improvement in Detonating Toys,called the Centennial Torpedo, of which the following is a specication: l L
My invention is of a toy for the entertainment ot' children, whereby,^in the throwing or dropping of a small ball, or somewhat similarv shaped body, against a hard substance, there will be a sharp report, as of an ordinary toy torpedo. t. v
Figure 1 is a side elevation ofthe toy. Fig. 2 is an edge view of a fulminatingpellet that may be used with the ball.
In construction I have a small ball or subglobular body,.A, having au obtusepointed end, usually turned out of Wood, but may be of other material, having the lowerend B` Weighted with a metal center, C, so that if the ball be dropped o1` thrown from the hand this weighted end will be the rst to strike; and on this end is placed, in some form, a fulminating pellet or cap, or some other explosive. As pellets, they are prepared between two layers ot' paper pasted together, and on one side of the paper is put, either in sheets or' singly at the time, an adhesive preparation,
and by this the piece of paper having the peljection suitable to receive it, for the samepurpose.
To the upper end of this ball I attach a string, D, usually of rubber, but not necessarily so, to'keep the ball from ying o" too far and 4to return it to the hand.
The charge may be repeated at will, and
much celebrating77 be carried on at a slight expense, and with no more harm than from a toy torpedo.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to l lsecure by Letters Patent, is-
l.. The ball or body A, with the Weighted end B, for exploding detonating-pellet's, substantially as specified.
2. The ball or body A, constructed With the` weighted point or end B, and the cord D attached to said body, as specified.
