Description

BUCHANAN. ATINGTOY GUN Patented Oct. 13; 1891'.
W. J. REPE (No Model.)
' WITNESSES- "/l':/
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WVILIJIAM J: BUCHANAN, OF HUNTINGTON, INDIANA.
REPEATING TOY GUN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 461,257, dated October 13, 1891.
Application filed May 12, 1891.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. BUCHANAN, of Huntington, in the county of Huntington and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Repeating Toy Guns; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an an improvement in repeating toy guns; and it consists in the stock having a suitable recess formed therein combined with a partially revolving-wheel that is pivoted in the recess in the stock, and which has a recess or recessesin its side and a spring that is secured to the wheel in the recess, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The object of my invention is to produce a repeating toy gun, by means of which a number of projectiles can be rapidly fired without having to reload, and which: gun is cheap and simple in construction, durable, and easy of operation. a
The accompanying drawing represents a gun which embodies my'invention.
A represents the stock, which will be made of wood or any other suitable material and which has a recess formed therein in any suitable manner to receive the partially-revolving wheel 0, that is pivoted at the point D. Through the stock at J is madea suitable inclined opening, in which a suitable number of projectiles are placed, so as to be fed to the wheel as fast as it can be manipulated. Se-
cured to the'vertical portion of the stock is a.
metallic plate H, which extends at its lower end down below the upper end of the spring G, that is secured in a recess formed in the wheel 0. This recess F is made V-shaped and only sufficiently wide to allow the spring G to play freely therein. The wheel has a horizontal portion L, which is on a line with the top edge of that partof the stock which corresponds to the barrel when the gun is ready to be fired and which forms a recess to receive a projectile when the Wheel is turned back to the position shown in dotted lines. iVhen the spring G is left free to move, it
Serial No. 392,436. (No model.)
0 causes the wheel to continue to turn until the upper end of the spring G slips past the lower end of the plate H, and in flying back to position it strikes against the projectile I and forces it from the gun. Moving the wheel back into position the upper end of the spring slips past the lower end of the spring H, and 'in bearing against the front edge of the V- shaped recess F it forms a support for they projectile which drops from the tube or recess J. IVhile the wheel C is forced forward to fire the gun its edge passes under the lower end of the recess and prevents any other projectile from dropping down until the wheel is turned back to receive it.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim- 1. The stock havinga recess formed therein to receive the partially-revolving wheel, combined with the wheel and a spring that is secured to the wheel, the stock being provided with an opening through which the projectiles pass to said wheel, substantially as shown.
2. The stock having a recess formed therein, combined with the pivoted partially-revolving wheel having a recess formed therein, a spring placed in the recess, and a projection against which the upper end of the spring catches, substantially as described.
3. The stock combined with the wheel having a recess and a flat portion L, upon which the projectile rests, the spring placed in the recess, and a projection against which the upper end of the spring catches, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM J. BUCHANAN.
