IMPRQVEMENT'IN CARTRlDGE-RETRACTORS FOR BREECH.LOAD|NG FIRE-ARMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No..46.6i7, datedMarch 7, 1865.
170 all zii/wm, it may colf/cara.'
- Be it known that l, ETHAN ALLEN, of- Worl* cester, in thecounty of Worcester, in the y State of Massachusetts, have invented a new' and Improved Mode of Constructing FireyArms; and I do hercby'declare that the' following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to 'the accompanyingdrawings, and to the letters-of reference marked Fi gurel is an elevation of asingle cartridgeloading pistol.A Fig.. 2 is avertical or top view of same. `Fig. 3 is an end-view of the barrel. The nature of my invention consists in so `arranging alink in connection with the cartridgedischarger andthe frame of the pistol that by turnin'gthe barrel from its bed it acts upon the discharg'er and throws the exploded cartridge-shell from the barrel.
To enable others skilled in thel art to.make and use my invention, I will proceed to de'- scribe its construction and operation.
Thispistol is designed to shoot metallieeartridges of ordinary construction, having a rim around thebase .which contains the detonating powder, and also serves as a fulcrum for the discharger to act upon. The barrel Bis hung in frame A, as seen in the drawings, by setscrew a, and t'urns'oft' for thepurpose of discharging the exploded cartridge and receivingJ another charge. The discharger E slides back and forth in a dovetailed grooveon the under side oibarrelB, as seen in'Figs. 2 and 3, be-
ing attached to link F by pin e, and the oppo-A site end of link h Lis attached tothe front end of the frame A. by p in f. There is a projection, g,- on the lower side of the rear lendof barrel B`,and a corresponding recess inframe A, which holds the barrel firmly while in p osition 'to be discharged. l
tion to be easily removed by the fingers. The p arm is now reloaded,` and the operation is repeated.
-Parts not shown or described being similar to those in ordinary use, a further description is not deemed necessary.
Having fully described 1 ny invention, what- I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' Link F, hung. in front of the center'of ac- .tionof .barrel B, in combination with dis- -charger E, substantially as described.-
ETHAN ALLEN. Witnesses:
