To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, STAR HENRY Rooms, a citizen of the United States, residing at Macon, in the county of Bibb and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in toys of a type designed to project articles into the air.

One of the objects of my invention is the production of a simple toy provided with means for projecting a ring into the air and adapted to catch the ring when it returns to the ground.

Another object of the invention is the production of a toy comprising a rod having a spiral spring mounted thereon with a ring containing cup and so arranged that the spring may be extended and the ring con-' tamed in the cup may be projected into the air and caught, when falling, in the cup.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved toy; Fig. 2 is a similar view partly in longitudinal section thereof; and Fig. 3 is a plan view partly in horizontal section, taken on line 3 s of Fig. 2.

In the accompanying drawings, which are prepared for illustrative purposes and therefore not drawn to scale, numeral 1 designates a rod having a handle 2 formed on one of its ends and an enlarged portion 8 formed 011 its opposite end. A spring a is mounted on the rod 1 to which it is secured by a hook 5, said spring is provided with a lateral arm 6 arranged near its lower end, a cup 7 having a centrally raised portion 8 mounted on the spring 4 so that the raised portion 8 abuts against the arm 6 and the bottom portion of the cup 7 is spaced above the lower end of the spring 4 so that said lower end may be grasped by the fingers of a person. A ring 9 is disposed in the cup 7 and is adapted to be projected into the air from said cup.

hen using my improved toy, the rod 1 is placed in a substantially upright position and the lower end of the spring 4 is grasped and said spring is slightly turned so that it will slide freely 011 said rod and said lower end is brought downwardly toward the handle 2 and suddenly released when brought to its lowermost position. The contraction of the extended spring 4: will quickly elevate the cup 7 and the ring 9, which ring will be projected by this movement into the air a considerable distance above the operator. As the ring 9 falls to the ground, the operator endeavors to catch the same in the cup 7 thereby securing both pleasure and exercise from the operation of my improved toy.

The various parts comprising my toy may be made of any suitable material and the spring fastened in any suitable manner to the rod 1, while the lower end of said spring may be provided with any suitable finger engaging loop or hand hold as may be found expedient.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportions and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described and ascertained the nature of my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:

1. A toy comprising a rod, a ring holding member slidably arranged on the rod and means movable on the rod for impelling the member thereon.

2. A toy comprising a rod, a cup member formed for the reception of a ring slidably arranged on the rod and means movable on the rod for impelling the member thereon.

3. A toy comprising a rod having a handle and an enlarged end portion, a spiral spring mounted .on the rod having one of its ends secured thereto, a containing member mounted on the spring, adapted to receive a projectile.

4;. A toy comprising a rod having a handle and an enlarged end portion, a spring slidably mounted on the rod, means for securing the spring to the rod, and a cup 1 mounted on the spring and slidable therewith over the rod.

5. A toy comprising a rod having a handie, a spring slidably mounted on the rod, and a containing member mounted on the spring and slidable therewith over the 10 rod.
