Description

Jul 29 1924;
a N. MULFORD SINGLE ARTICLE DELIVERY DEVICE Filed Dec. 5, 1923 Patented July 29, 1924.
BRADEN Nu MULIEOBD, OE "FOUNTAIN HEAD, TENNESSEE.
SINGLE-ARTICLE-DELIVEEY DEVICE.
Application filed. December 5,1923. Serial No. 678,692.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BRADEN MULFoRD, a resident of Fountain Head, in the county of Sumner and State of Tennessee, a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Single-ArticleDelivery Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in single article delivery devices, which is particularly adapted and desirable for use in delivering matches, tooth-picks, drinking straws and such like, and which may be used for any purpose where it would operate in a practical manner.
The main object of my invention is the provision of a device which can be operated with ease and facility and which will absolutely deliver a single article at each operation of the machine or device.
Another object of my invention is the production of a machine of the character and for the purpose stated which will be of small and compact construction to occupy a small amount of space and which will be highly ornamental and attractive in appearance.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a device or machine for delivering a single articlewhich will be of simple, strong and durable construction, inexpensive to manufacture and from every standpoint efficient and practical.
Vith these objects in view my invention consists of a machine or device to accomplish said objects embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts, substantially as described and claimed herein and as shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 represents a perspective View of a complete single article delivery device constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention.
Figure 2 represents a vertical central sec- 1 tional view, and
Figure 3 represents a top plan view of the device the cover of the container being removed to show interior construction.
My device is the embodiment of simplicity and capable of many uses and consists of the box or container A, of suitable size for the purpose and of rectangular shape, having a snug fitting cover B, and mounted on legs C, having a space D, between its bottom E, and container proper in which is plate or slideF,whioh has a discharge opening G, through which a single match H, or
other article is discharged, the inclined wall A in the container serving to direct the article into said discharge opening G, as clearly shown in Figure 2.
From this construction it will be apparent that the container is filled with matches, tooth-picks, or in fact any other article for single delivery and that the delivery plate has a sliding movement in the container, the said plate'being formed at its outer corner with a pair of ears H, to which is connected one end J, of the pair of coiled springs K, whose other ends L, are secured to the hooks M, attached to the rear of the container, the efiect of the springs being to hold the delivery plate in normal or closed position and to return it to such position after the discharge of the single article.
The said delivery plate is operated b-ythe bail shaped hand pressed lever N, which is pivoted or fulcrumed at O, to the legs C, and is formed with the upstanding arms P, which have their upper ends engaging openings Q, in the said ears H, and thus pressure downward on the bail or handle portion of said lever moves the delivery plate to the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 2, discharging a single article and returning instantly to normal position underthe impulse of the pair of springs.
I claim:
1. A single article delivery device, consisting of a container, a pair of hooks secured to the lower portion of said container, a single article delivery plate mounted in said'container, a pair of ears on said plate, springs connected with said plate for retaining and returning it to normal position, said springs having their ends connected to the hooks on the container and the ears of the delivery plate and a pivoted hand operated lever connected with said plate for sliding it. to delivery position.
2. A single article delivery device, consisting of a container, a pair of hooks secured to the lower portion of said container, a pair of legs for supporting said container in an elevated position, a plate having a pair of ears and also having a delivery opening and mounted to slide in the container, a'pair of springs connected at one end to the ears on said plate and at their other ends to the hooks on the container, and'a hand operated lever pivoted to said legs and formed with :arms connected With saidsliding plate to move the plate to delivery position.
3. A single article delivery device, consisting of a container, a pair of legs supporting said container at a suitable height, a pair of hooks secured tothe rear o'f-said container, a plate having a discharge opening and'niounted to slide in the bottom of said container, an inclined plate in the container for conducting the article to the discharge opening of said plate, a pair of ears formed on said delivery plate, a pair of coiled springs having their ends connected to said ears and hooks, a hand operated lever intermediately pivoted to said legs, and a pair of upstanding arms formed on said lever and engaging the ears on the discharge plate to Inove said plate When hand pressure is applied.
, In testimony whereof I hereunto ,aflix my signature. BRADEN N. MULFORD.
