WATERPROOF RECEPTACLE .application led July 20, 1928. Serial No. 294,094.
ylJhis invention relates to waterproof receptacles, such as cigarette cases and the like, adaptedpto be used as a bathing suit accessory, and for like purposes.'
- fin object of the invention is to provide a receptacle of the character described, which shall be positively waterproof and yet have means for readily opening and closing the same, and shall be of practical and economical construction.
An object o this invention is to provide a waterproof receptacle of the cha acter described having a hingeless cover and i1nproved means for readily opening and closing said cover.
A further object oi' this invention is to pro fide a structure comprising 'few and simple parts, which shall be relatively cheap to manufacture, and practical and eiiicient to a high degree in use.
Other objects ot this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations or elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exempliiied in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope ot application will be indicated in the following claims.
in the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a sectional elevational View et the receptacle embodying the invention showing the cover actuating mechanism at one side ot the receptacle.
Fig. 2 is a partial crosssectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged plan view ot the actuating mechanism at one side of the receptacle.
Fig. 4- is a cross-sectional view taken on line -l of Fig. 2, but showing the cover slightly opened.
Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. showing the cover entirely opened.
Fig. 6 is a top plan view of the receptacle with the cover open.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 1() denotes a waterproof receptacle embodying the invention adapted to be used as a bathing suit accessory in the form o a cigarette case. Said receptacle is seen to comprise a container l1 having a bottom wall 1Q, a front wall 18, a rear wall le and end walls 15, a. The front wall 13 is preferably made of greater height than the rear wall 14, the top portion 16 oi end walls 15, 15a, being formed at an angle to said front and rear walls. Said front, rear Aand side walls oi the container 11 are bent inwardly at the` upper portions thereof and terminate in a short upstanding portion 17 encircling said container and forming a contracted portion 1S for seating a complementary cover 19 for said receptacle.
Said cover 19 is formed with a top wall 20, a rear wall 21, and triangular end walls 22, 22a. The lower edge portions 28 ot said end walls 22, 22, are formed at an angle corresponding to the angle et the upper portions 16 of end walls 15, 15a; and the top wall 2O of the cover is parallel to the bottom wall 12 of the receptacle when said cover is seated on said receptacle. The open end portions of the cover 19 are formed with a bead 2a encircling said cover' and adapted to lit the seat 18 ot the receptacle. Packing means such as a strip or layer ot rubber 25 may be stuffed into said bead for contacting the upstanding portion 16 of said seat 18 to insure a water-tight seal 'for the receptacle.
The receptacle 11 is provided with partitions adjacent the end walls 15, 15, and spaced therefrom to 'torni a chamber' 31 at each end of the receptacle. Said partitions 30 may be formed with inwardly bent ianges 32 contacting the bottom wall 12 and front and rear walls 13, 14. Said partitions may be secured to said walls by soldering the flanges 32 thereto, or in any other suitable manner. The upper ends of said partition may be formed with outwardly bent extensions 33 engaging the upstanding portions 17. Said extensions forni closures for the chambers 31, except for a slot 341 provided in each of said extensions tor a purpose hereinafter appearing.
The space betwen the partitions 30 forms necessary7 to remove the fingers holding said cover in coen position. Upon release of finger pressure, the springs fl eXert a strong downward pull on the projections 4G of the floating' levers Said levers are thereby pivoted on projections 5l Which are now the fulcrum points for said levers. Said pivotal movement of the floating levers l5 pull the arms Ll() down and swing the cover into seating position which is facilitated by the contracted position 17 of the seat 18.
lt will thus be seen that there is provided a. device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and Which is Well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various chai'iges might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
