Also incorporated in the cover I0 is a closing flap [5. This flap may be a separate piece, but, as here shown, is indicated as an integral continuation of said floor-like end portion of the bottom longitudinal wall of the stem stall l I; said continuation being in a direction opposite to that of the direction of extension of the stem stall l laway from the bowl stall I 2.

Also shown as included in the cover I0 is a and the other fixed on the flap near the free end thereof. The placements of these elements, and the shaping and dimensions of the flap 15, are all such, as will be noted, that, after insertion of a pipe free end of its stem foremost into the cover 10, the flap l5 may be given two transverse folds so as finally to become disposed as shown in dot and dash lines, in Fig. 2, and then with the fastener elements It and H in perfect mating relationship.

In Fig. 3-A the wall IA of the cover l0 is shown to be completely circular and may be held together by a snap fastener 14 or the like.

The modification of the pipe cover shown in Figs. 4 and 5, is similar to that shown in Figs. 1 to 3, except for the provision of means for stiffening the top portion of the U-shaped wall [4' and for gripping the bowl of the inserted pipe.

The stiffening and gripping means is characterized by a C-shaped member l8 formed of flexible metal and extended about the inside of the U-shapedwall 14' adjacent the top thereof. At spaced points, the U-shaped wall [4' is formed with spaced pairs of slots 19 through which the 0-shaped member i8 is extendedfor mounting the C-shaped member [8 in position. As shown in Fig. 5, theends [8 of the O-shaped member are bent slightly outward away from each other for guiding thebowlof the pipe into position within the G-shaped member 18.

Vfhile I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. In-a cover for a smoking pipe, a pair of superimposedelongated sections having their edges secured together providing a stall for the stem of a pipe, the lower of said sections being longer to have a portion extended beyond the upper of said sections, a U-shaped wall section secured along its bottom edges to the side edges ofsaid extended portion and to the adjacent end of the upper of said elongated sections forminga stall for the bowl of the pipe, and a flexible O-shaped member extended along the inner face of said U-sha'ped wall section closely adjacent the topedges thereof for stiffening the top portion of said- U-shaped wall to grip the bowl of the" pipe and retain it in position within said bowlstall.

2.'In a cover for a smoking pipe, a pair. of superimposed elongated sections having their edges secured together providing a stall for the stem of a pipe, the lower of said sections bein longer to have a portion extended beyond the upper of said sections, a U-shaped wall section secured along its bottom edges to the side edges of said extended portions and to the adjacent end of the upper of said elongated sections forming a stall for the bowl of the pipe, and a flexible C-shaped member extended along the inner face of said U-shaped wall section closely adjacent the top edges thereof for stiffening the top portion of said U-shaped wall to grip the bowl of the pipe and retain it in position within said bowl stall, said U-shaped wall having spaced sets of vertically extended slots through which said C-shaped member is laced mounting the same in position on said U-shaped wall.

3. In a cover for a smoking pipe, a pair of superimposed elongated sections having their edges secured together providing a stall for the stem ofa pipe, the lower of said sections being longer to have a portion extended beyond the upper of said sections, a U-shaped wall section secured along its bottom edges to the side edges of said extended portion and to the adjacent end of the'upper of said elongated sections forming a stall for thebowl of the pipe, and a flexible C-shaped member extended along the inner face of said U-shaped wall section closely adjacent the top edges thereof for stiffening the top portion of said U-shaped wall to grip the bowl of the pipe and retain it in position within said bowl stall, said U-shaped wall having spaced sets of vertically extended slots through which said C-shaped member is laced mounting the same in position on said U-shaped wall, said C-shaped member having the ends of its side arms turned slightly away from one another for guiding the pipe bowl into position within said C-shaped member.
