Description

E. R. BEACH.
COMBINED LAMP-STAND AND MATCH-BOX.
No.174,936. Patented March 21,1876.
Zmmem M NJERS. PHUTU-LITNUGRAPHER, WASHINGVON. D C- To all-whom fitmdy concern:
PATENT OFFICE.
EDWIN E. BEACH, 0E NEw YORK, N. Y.
IMPRovEMENTflN COMBINED LAMP-STANDS AND MATCH-Boxes.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,936, dated March 21, 1876: application Iiled November 2, 1875.
Be it known that I, EDWIN R. BEACH, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined.Lamp-Stands and Match Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, 4and tothe letters of reference marked thereon.-
I am aware that match-receptacles have before been constructed .in connection with the base'ofa lamp or 'candlestick, such as the invention of Thomas Shanks, patented` January 19, 1858, the objection to most of these heilig their expensiveness and inconvenience.
The object of this kinvention is'to produce a substantial, cheap, and convenient receptacle for, matches within the base of a lamp, droplight, or other illuminating apparatus.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of my improved lamp-base. Fig. 2 is the matchreceptacle connected therewith, and Fig. 3 is thebottom plate o'f the base. Fig. A is a view looking down upon the lampbas'e,' matchreceptacle, and plate, as connected ready for use, the drawer or receptacle being. represented as open. p
Similar letters indicate similar parts.
e is a projectionv'cast within the receptacle,
in which the hole d is drilled or cast to receive the pin or pivot d, which is cast ,on the base A. f is a projection cast on the plate F, and is made hollow to receive the nut G, which screws on the bolt c, running through the stand a, base A, and plate F, holding them i`rmly together, and preventing the drawer B from sliding ofi the pivot d. Small cornerpieces are cast within the base A, to prevent the plate F from being drawn in too far, or from pressing too tightly upon the drawer B,
, which is thus left free to swing on the pivotal.
The advantages of this arrangement are, that the whole base can be east without using a core, and that the drawer may be readily opened by pressing upon itback of the pivot d; that it is a convenient and useful attachment to a lamp for the reception of matches.
Having thus described my invention, I claim Vas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The pivoted matchreceptacle B within the base of a lamp, drop-light, or other illuminating apparatus` constructed and operated substantially as described.
