PORTABLE SUSPENDED CRIB.

A invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in portable hammocks for infants.

The invention will first be described in connection with the accompanying drawings and then particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure l is an end view of a device embodying my invention applied to a bedstead, a portion only of the latter being shown. Fig. 2 is a' side View of the device. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views of the hangerplate and endmblock. Figs. 5 and 6 are detail views of a socket embodying a part of my invention.

Referring to thedrawings, A is a bedstead which is provided at any suitable point with a socket which is revolubly mounted on a crane or standard B, preferably of tubing, and provided at its outer end with a T, threaded or otherwise fixed to said crane, a pair of downward-bent basket-supports O, together forming a cross-piece, being secured to the said T in such a manner as to be rigid with the crane.

To the free end of the cradle-s upports C are attached goosenecks D, each of which is threaded or otherwise fixed to its respective support and has its outward end extending downward and provided with a slot or opening into which enters a iiattened eye e. on a ends of rods f', which are bent to form the4 body of the cradle or basket F, the rods being connected at intervals by braces or ties f2. The top edge of the said basket has a rail f3 resting upon and secured to the said end blocks f. The said rails f3, as well as the rods f and the ties f2, are preferably of cane, the rods having their ends glued into the holes in the end blocks f, and additionally secured by nails, which are driven from the outside of said blocks f, the heads of the nails being hidden by the plates c2.

While various forms of the sockets may be employed in supporting the crane B, I have devised one form especially adapted for my purpose, and consisting of a casting G, having flanged lugs g, a rear flat portion g3 on each sideof a concave depression g between said flanges, and a cylindrical opening or hole g2 extending nearly but not quite to the bottom end of the socket-casting G, and at the front part of the same, this hole g2 serving to hold theV lower end of the crane B, which is removably and revolubly insertible therein, the bottom of said hole forming a bearing-surface for the end of the crane and thus avoiding the necessity of clamp-screws. By means of the flanged lugs g, which have screw-holes, the socket may be secured to the bed. Similar sockets may be secured to other convenient places, so that the location of the hammock or crib may be changed if desired.

The concave surface at the back of the socket-casting serves to permit the attachnient of said casting to the usual round parts of an iron bedstead, in which case a pair of stirrup-bolts II are employed, one for each pair of screw-holes, as will be understood from Figs. 5 and 6.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim asvnew, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination, with a pair of end blocks, of a basket formed of rods secured to said end blocks, a pair of hangers each having one end iiattened out to form a plate, which is secured to its respective end block, and means for pivotally supporting the pair of hangers, substantially as described.

2. The combination, with a pair of end blocks having a series of holes in their edges, a basket formed of a series of rods whose ends are secured in the respective holes in the end blocks and a pair of hangers having plates, each plate being secured to its respective end IOO block, of a cross-piece to which the hangers are pivoted, one at each end, and means for supporting the cross-piece rotatably, substantially as described. o

3. The Combination, With arotatable crane, of a T on the end of the crane, a pair of basketsupports fixed to the T and bent downward, a gooseneck secured to each support, each provided With a slot, a hanger pivoted in each slot, and a basket carried by the hangers, substantially as described.
