Description
March 4, 1930.
F. E. SWANSTROM GARMENT Filed Aug. 50, 1928 Patented Mar. 4, 1930' FRANCES E. swANs'raoM,-or DULTl'TI-I, MINNESOTA ticularly adapted for use by children, though PATENT OFFICE GARMENT Application filed August 30, 1928. Serial No. 302,924.
Thisinvention relates to garments and has special reference to an overall garmentpardeemed equally efficient for adults.
The principal object is to produce a garment of this type having a fastening attach- -thischaracter requiring as few and simple 'ment of novel construction which will permit of putting the complete garment and attachments through a wringer or mangle during the process of cleaning and pressing. i
Anotherobject is ,to produce a garment of fastening attachments. as possible Another more specific object is to produce a novel form offastening attachment which will permit of passing through a wringer or the like. I,
Other objects and advantages of the inv 'vention will appear in the further description thereof. I Y
. 1 Referring now to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this application, and
wherein .like reference characters indicate like parts: p
Figure 1 isa front elevation of a garment we embodying the invention;
Figure 2 is a rear elevation.
I As is obvious, the body portion may or may -not have arms attached thereto, and if attached they may beof any desired length, and
' p I also the legs may be of any desired length.
1 and 2, represent the overlapping flaps of '7 the-front of the body portion, while 3-represents the back of the body portion, 4 indicates thelegs which terminate upwardly in :front in the flaps 1 and 2, or at least are integral therewith, and in the back terminate in the seat flap 5, said flap being free except as it is heldby the belt sections 6 and 7 from apoint at either side, indicated at8, which is in a plane with the lower extremity of the back portion 3, such extremity being indicated by the dottedv line 9 in Figure 2,'the "seat flap being formed abnormally full for with the vertically elongated slot or opening 10, while the latter is provided with the arrowhead shaped fastening member 11. This fastening member 11 is forengagement within the elongated slot or buttonhole 12 in the flap 1 of the front of the garment. A similarly shaped arrowhead fastening member 18 is permanently attached to the apex of the flap 2 and extendible through the buttonhole 14 at the base of the flap 1 similar to the buttonhole 12, and when thus extended is cooperatively engageable with the belt section 6 having the buttonhole 10 therein.
By this means there is provided a belt section ofsubstantially equal length upon either side of the flap portion, thus avoiding the annoyance of a long belt section which is sometimes employed in similarly shaped garments, and having no attachments of any considerable length at least to either of the overlapping flaps in the front of the garment.
1 For convenience in holding the belt sections to the body portion there is provided a loop 15 attached to the back of the body portion adjacent the upper corner of the seat flap when in closed position, and through which the belt sections may be threaded, as clearly seen in the drawings.
From the above it is evident that I have provided an exceedingly simpleand practical garment, and one requiring no other fastening means either in the front above the crotch where buttons are usually employed, or about the neck, as it is evident that the use of a necktie for example would act. as an ample additional holding means about the upper part thereof, and that the seat flap is most readily adjusted simultaneously with the opening of the front flaps.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire tosecure by Leter Patent, 1s:
The combination with a garment of the class described having body and leg portions,
of integral overlapping flaps comprising the entire front of the body portion, a seat flap overlapping the entire lower portion of the back of the body portion, and fasteningv means attached to the upper opposite corners of theseat flap, one for cooperative engagement With one front flap through the garment, and the other for cooperative engagement With the other front flap externally of the garment. V In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
' FRANCES E. SWANSTROM.
