Description

Cf LANDOLT & F. WIGHSER.
* v moan NPETERS, PHOTO-LITNOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON, D. O,
VIITNESSES UNITEJ) STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN LANDoLT AND EEEDEIoK wIcHsEE, oF TELL CITY, INDIANA;
IMPROVEMENT IN BRONZING-MACHINES Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,735, dated March 14', 1876; applicationiled February 5, 1816.
To all whom it may concern:v 4 'l Be it known 'that we, CHRISTIAN LANDOLT and FREDRICK WIoHsErnof Tell City, in the county of Perry and State of- Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Bronzing-Machine, of which the following is a specifica'- 4 work, when the bronze-box moves up tothe pads and supplies them, making a simple and eflicient contrivance whereby cards, bills, &c., may be whollyor partly bronzed, and. the pads and bronze-box are contrived so that different colors may be applied at the same time.- The invention also comprises the combination ofthe table bronze-box and bronzing-pads without the stencil. f
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional elevation of our improved machine, taken on line wx of Fig.' 2. Fig. 2 is'a horizontal section, taken on lille y y of Fig. l; and Fig; 3 is a plan of the stencil. y y y Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.
A is the sliding table on which the card B, l'
or other matter to be bronzed, is placed to be moved under the bronzing-pads C, to which the bronze powder is applied bythe box D, which is made to slide forward and backward Y alongwith thel tablefby the crankeddrum E Vand strap F, so that the box comes under the pads when theltable is drawn back to remove the work. y y e The work is held down on the table bya I roller, G, and in case` of need a little strip of When the work is not'to be bronzed all over we use the flexible stencil H, connecting it to the inner end of the table, say,fby fixing it between-the table and the` bronze-box`, and pasting it tothe under side of the latter, as
shown'at I, or in any other approved Way,
passing it around lroller G, and connecting the other endrto the iexible cords J, which pass around roller K, which is connectedl by cord L with a spring, M, which keeps the ystencil in vproper tensionewhile moving forward andv backward with the table.l The stencil is cut for allowing the pads t0 touch For employing different colors on the same work, the box D is divided by partitions N into as many parts as there are different colors to be used, and a pad is used for each color independently of theothers.r
A,When the pads are for lines ,widely separa- .ted from each other, partition-pieces Ufwill be used to till in the spaces between the pads, said pieces being contrived withnotches P .to bey readily applied' to and removed from their supporting-rods Q, and the .pads are detachably connected to theirl supportingrod.
Having thusdeseribed our invention, we
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters v Patenti v 1. The sliding table A,rollerGr, bronze-box D, and bronzingpadsC, contrived and arranged substantially as specified; Q 2. The combination ofthe flexible stencil H, with roller G, sliding table A, and bronzingpads C, substantially4 as specified.
3. The adjustablypartitioned bronze-box, detachable independent bronze-pads C, and removable partition-pieces O, combined and arranged substantially as specified.
A CHRISTIAN LANDOLT. Y FREDRIGK WIOHSER. Witnesses: J. J. MEYER,
W. P. KNIGHT.
