COMBINED TABLE AND CHAIR.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Oct. 10, 1916.
Application filed November 5, 1915. Serial No. 59,711.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Monnrs PRINOER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the borough of Brooklyn, city of New York, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Combined Table and Chair, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in combined tables and chairs, and the object of my invention is to provide a simple and convenient combined table and chair for the use of Opticians 'and the like and which may be folded up to occupy a minimum floor space. I accomplish this object by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view of the device complete, Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a section of the device on the line 3- 3 in Fig. 1.
Similar characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
On the underside of a table 1, I provide a knee rest or leaf 2, rotatable on pivots 3 and 4 set respectively in the underside of the table 1 and in a socket plate 5 adjacent the floor. The leaf 2 carries a bar 6, to the end section of which there are connected chairs 7 and 8 by means of the arms 9 and 10 respectively. On the side of the leaf 2 intermediate the bar 6 and the floor, I provide a plate 11 upon which is pivotally mounted a beam 12, one end section of which is connected with the arm 10, intermediate the bar 6 and the chair 8 by a rod 13, and the other end section of the beam 12 is connected with the arm 9 intermediate the bar 6 and the chair 7. It will thus be seen that by drawing out one of the chairs, the other will be thereby extended by reason of the connecting rods 13 and 14: and beam 12. A person at one side of the table 1 may therefore readily adjust and place in position for use, the chair at the opposite side, and in like manner both chairs may be simultaneously folded away under the table when not in use. By reason of the offset links 9 and 10 between the chairs 7 and 8 respectively and the bar 6, this bar is so placed as not to interfere with the use of the chairs.
In certain classes of business such as that of Opticians, manicurists and the like it is necessary that the operators and patient or customers be seated atopposite sides of a narrow table. My device is particularly adapted for use in work of this nature and with it, the operator at one side of the table has at all times the full control of both chairs and both the chairs may be readily folded away under a comparatively small table. The leaf 2 in addition to its function of carrying the bar 6, serves also as aknee rest and guard for the persons using the table.
I provide on the underside of the table 1 a stop. 15 to engage the leaf 2 when the chairs are in the desired extended position. I also preferably provide on the edge section of the leaf 2 a latch 16 whereby the chairs, when folded may be secured against accidental displacement and which may also serve as a lock for the drawers of the table 1.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a device of the character described, a table, a rotatable knee rest below the table, a bar carried thereby and chairs on said bar substantially as shown and described.
2. In a device of the character described, a table, a rotatable knee rest below the table, a bar carried thereby, chairs movably mounted on said bar, and a connecting medium between said chairs whereby their position may be simultaneously adjusted to the bar substantially as shown and described.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of a table, a plurality of chairs, a rotatable leaf on the table, a bar carried thereby, links connecting said bar and the chairs, a beam pivotally mounted on the said leaf and connecting mediums between the said beam and the chairs substantially as shown and described.
4:. In a device of the character described, a table, a rotatable bar thereon, chairs movably mounted on the end sections of said bar, and olfset therefrom, a revoluble beam on the table and a connecting medium between the said beam and the chairs whereby the motion of one chair will be communicated to the other substantially as shown and described.
Signed at New York in the county of New York and State of New York this 4th day of November A. D. 1915.
