Description
A. SKE. Copy-Holder.
No. 225,386. Patented Mar. 9, 1880.
NJETEHS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D G.
UNITED STATES ANTHONY ISKE,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF LAN GASTER, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO ISRAEL L.
LANDIS, OF SAME PLACE.
COPY-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 225,386, dated March 9, 1880.
Application filed December '24, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTHONY ISKE, of Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster, and in the State offlPennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Copy- Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a copyholder, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. 1
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same.
The frame of my writing and ruling board' desired. Below the top B the inner sides of the bars A A are grooved to receive ledges on the sides of a drawer, O, which closes under the top. The front strip of this drawer extends above the top B, so as to form a ledge for the paper, as shown at a. The inside of the drawer is divided by a cross-strip, I), into one compartment for paper and another for drawing-instruments.
At the upper end of the frame are pivoted two legs, E E, which, when thrown down, hold the board in an inclined position.
D represents a frame containing two rollers, F F, placed in grooves m on the top of the side bars, A A, and held by pins 01, one on each side. This frame is adjustable, but is generally to be used at the head or upper end of the board. The journals of the lower roller, F, are placed in stationary hearings in the side pieces of the frame A, while the journals of the upper roller, F, are placed in slots in said side pieces, and said roller held in contact with the lower roller by means of a rubher band, h, on each side, passing around the journal of the upper roller and around a pin, 6, on the frame.
cannot be lifted out. out the drawer and then moving the slide for- The upper roller, F, is at each end provided with a knob, G, for turning.
The manuscript from which a copy is to be made is passed under the lower roller and the upper end passed from the front backward between the two rollers, which will show just one or two lines through an opening in the frame. By turning either knob G the manuscript can then be gradually moved as required for copying.
The paper on which the writing is being made can be gradually moved upward under the lower roller, so that the writer may always write at the same distance from the copy.
In the groove m on one of the side bars, A, is placed a slide, H, which has on its inner side a pin or lug or rib, p, projecting into a side groove, n, .in the bar A, so that said slide It is only by pulling ward that it can be removed from the grooves, and it may be used on the other side of the board by providing the other side bar with similar grooves m and n.
On the slide H is fastened a T-square, I, by means -of a set-screw, J for ruling purposes. This T-square has a slot, as, for the passage of the'setscrew, so that the T-square may be set at any angle desired, and thus parallel inclined lines be ruled, as required. The T- square I is graduated as shown, so as to form a measure also.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
1. The combination of the grooved side bars, A A, top B, and frame D, with fastening-pins cl, roller F, roller F, with knobs Gr and rubber bands It, and the drawer O, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. In combination with the board B and side bar, A, having grooves m n, the slide H, with pin 1), the slotted adjustable T-square I, and the screw J, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 12th day of
