IMPROVEMENT IN DRAWING-TAB LES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 222,047, dated November 25, 1879; application filed August 25, 1879. A
To all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, WARREN HOLDEN, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful improvement in Drawing- '.lllables, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a top view of my improved drawing-tab1e,one of the leaves being shown as turned back. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same, taken through the line w m, Fig. 1.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved drawing-table, which shall be so constructed that the drawing-paper may be adjusted to bring the part of the paper upon which the artist is at work close to him without exposing the paper to injury, and which will allow the artist to work upon long strips of paper and have the part upon which he is at work close to him at all times, while protecting the other parts of the said paper from being soiled or injured, and which shall be simple in construction and convenient in use.
"llhe invention consists in an improved drawing-table formed by the combination of the two half-cylinders, the two hinged leaves, and the drawing-board with each other and with the supportingframe, all constructed and arranged as hereinafter fully described.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. l A represents the frame of the table, which may be made of any desired length, breadth,
and height. To the side bars of the frame A, and at a' little distance from the front and rear bars, are attached the ends Of two half-cylinders, B, with their convex sides toward the said front and rear bars andtheir straight sides inward, as shown in Fig. 2.
To the upper edges of the front and rear bars of the frame A are hinged the outer edges of the wings or leaves U, the inner edges of which are concaved to lit upon the parts of thehalf-cylinder B that project above `between the'upwardly-projecting parts of the half-cylinders B, and which may be permanent or detachable, as may be desired.
\ The leaves C and the drawing-board D are made of such a thickness, and the half-cy1in ders B are so arranged, that when the said leaves G are turned down upon the half-cylinders B the upper surface of the table will be exactly level.
In using the table the leaves O are turned back, the paper is arranged upon and secured to the drawing-board D, its ends are passed down around the curved sides ofthe half-cylinders B, and the leaves C are turned down upon them.
Cleats E may be attached to the under sides of the side bars of the frame Afor the ends of the paper to rest upon to keep them out of the way of the feet of the artist and prevent them from being soiled. y
When a roll of paper isto be used, one o1' i more shafts maybe pivoted to the frame A to receive the said roll.
Having thus fully described I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, in a drawing-table, of the frame A, the board D, the half-cylinders B B, and concaved Wings'or leaves O C, hinged to the front and rear bars of the frame A, the upper surface ofthe parts B G D being in the same plane when the table ist'ready for the draftsman, as shown and described.
