UNITEn-STATES PATENT OFFICE, 1
FRANCIS E. JOHNSON,
OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
lMPROVEMENT IN SUSPENDER-STRAPS.
Specification forming part of Letters PatentNo. [74,252, dated February 29, 1876 application filed January 15, 1876.
To allywhom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, FRANCIS E. JOHNSON,
- of the city, county, and State of New York,
and lapped on the straps and sewed, eyeleted,
or riveted together and to the straps, the straps consisting of one ortwo pieces, and not passing through the ring or buckle, in stead of one piece, as heretofore made, and looped through, so that it was exposed'to the wear of the metal, and soon destroyed by it.
By this plan the portion subject to wear in the ring is of strong leather, which is more durable than. the single-cut eyeleted strap ordinarily used, and the material used is more suitable than leather, because the latter soils the clothes of the wearer, which the woven straps do not; and to prevent tl e leather part which I use from soiling the clothes, I cover it with felt, or any cloth or other cover adapted for the purpose; but this cover may be used or not, at pleasure.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the buttonstrap attached to a ring according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a section on linea as, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the button-strap, of woven material, which is of two parts, lapped upon each other diagonally at the upper end, below the ring B, and fastened together and to the ring by the leather piece 0, looped through the ring and lapped on the button-strap, and sewed together through the strap, or it may be eyeleted, riveted, or otherwise fastened; C is a cover of felt, or other suitable material, to prevent the leather from soiling the clothes.
[am aware that it is not new in suspenders to make a crotcheted strap with loop'for button-hole by uniting the inner sides of a flat cord and connecting the ends with buckle by a strap; but
What I claim is A woven button-strap for suspenders, sewed, eyeleted, or otherwise fastened to the buckleconnection 0 on a diagonal fold, as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
FRANCIS E. JOHNSON.
