Description

GARMENT SUPPORTING MEANS Filed Aug. 1927 I a [5W z aess I BY flu ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 8, 1929 so STATES ETHEL M. BURNS, OF KANSAS CITY",.MISSOURI I GARMENT-SUPPORTING MEAivs Application filed August 4, 1 927. Seria1 1 To.'21 0,649.
My invention relates to improvements in garment supporting means.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide novel and simple means for supporting a womans undergarment which is adapted to embrace the bust, such as a brassiere, slip cheap, easily applied easily p'rpper position on the shoulders.
two shoulder y invention provides still further a dress having novel means for being engaged by two shoulder straps, and a novel undergarment having means for being releasably attached to straps.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my in- 30 vention,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an undergarment, such as a slip having attached thereto my improved shoulder straps.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view, part- 0 1y broken away of the garment shown in Fig.
1, the straps being removed.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view, partly broken away, of a plurality of garments supported by my improved support ing means, one of the shoulder straps, and a portion of a dress engaging said strap.
Fig. i is a plan view, of one of the shoulder straps.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of a portion of the other shoulder strap.
Fig. 6 is an under view of the dress and one of the undergarments engaged with the shoulder straps.
Similar characters of reference designate similar parts in the different views.
partly broken awa 1, 2 and 3'designatelrespectively three u ndergarments, which may be respectively a brassiere, a teddy bear and a slip.
. Each of these; garments is provided on its inner side and upper portion with two rear loops 4;, Fig. 2, spaced apart at opposite sides of the central line of the back, and two front loops 5 similarly disposed with respect to the front center line. The loops 4 and 5 may be composed each of a strip of cloth disposed horizontally and sewed at itsendsto the garment. i i
6 and? designate respectively two shoulder straps adaptedto be worn respectively over One end of each the right and left shoulders. of said straps has fastened to it a link 8 through which is adapted to be inserted the other end portionof-the strap. As shown in Figs. 4 and 5', the links 8 are disposed oblique ly, in opposite directions, with relation to the straps, to enable the latter to adapt themselves to the positions they are to assume on theperson. l
'9 designatesa dress which is worn over the undergarments, the latter being disposed, as usual, one within the other.
Attached respectively to the inner side of the shoulder portions of the dress 9 at opposite sides of the neck opening are two transverse loops 10. I
Each strap 6 and 7 has attached to it, at
the end opposite to that which is attached to the link 8, a metal tab 12, which may be provided with two holes 13 adapted to have respectively inserted therethrough two small fastening pins 14 attached to a plate 15 fastened to the strap at a point spaced from-the tab 12.
In the operation of the invention, the straps 6 and 7 are first respectively inserted upwardly through the right and left rear loops 4 of the undermost garment 1 and then through the links 8 respectively. The straps are then inserted upwardly through the rear links 1 of the other two undergarments 2and 3, and thenthrough the loops 10 of the dress 9, thence through the front loops 5, upwardly, of the garments 1, 2 and 3, in the order named, after which the front end portions of the straps 6 and 7 are doubled on themselves,
Price and extended through therear loop and as shown in Fig. 3 and releasably fastened in the doubled position by inserting the adjacent pins 14 through the holes 13 of the ad jacent tabs 12.
The garments thus assembled may then be put on the person; or if desired, the front end portions of the straps may be inserted through the front loops 5 and doubled and fastened after the garments have been placed on the person.
It will be seen from the foregoing description, that the two shoulder straps will support all of the undergarments, thus eliminating the usual requirement of a: plurality of straps over each shoulder, When a plurality of undergarments of the kind. are worm- The provision of the loops: '10, on the dress 9, engaged by the straps 6 and 7 serves. to hold the, straps-from slipping laterally from the shoulders.
I do not limit my invention to the structure shown. and described, as modifications,
within the scope of the. appended claim, may
be. made Without departing from, the spirit a of my invention.
What Iv claim is In garment supporting means, a garment adapted to embrace the bust and provided at the front with a loop and having at the rear a. loop, and a shoulder strap having a link through said link, and extended through the front loop and having its front endportion doubled on itself and having means for being releasably fastened in such doubled p0-' V sition.
Intestimony iwhereof I have signed my name to this specification.
