Claims.

This invention relates to a detachable combination garment for women's wear, more particularly, an undergarment of the combined detachable brassiere and girdle or corset type.

The invention aims to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment of the class referred to, whereby when worn, the wearer has freedom of the front and back of the brassiere and gives the wearer the full freedom of action of a. separate brassiere relative to the girdle or corset and at the same time always bringing the lower and upper part of the front and back of the brassiere'into their original positions when standing, or mother words, eliminating the brassire from hiking up on the girdle or corset at the front and back of the latter.

A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment including an upper element in the form of a brassiere, a lower element in the form of a girdle or corset and with the lower portion of the upper element overlapping and encompassing throughout the upper portion of the lower element. The

at the fronts and backs thereof, for detachably connecting them together and for imparting to the brassire all the relief and freedom of a separate brassiere, as well as to permit of the upper element being laundered without any interference with or from the lower element.

A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a combination garment including an upper element in the form of a brassiere and a lower element in the form of a girdle or corset and with said elements having coacting parts for detachably connecting them together to permit of a worn or damaged element being removed and a new one substituted without discarding the non-worn or nondamaged element.-

A- further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth an undergarment formed. of an upper element, in the form of a brassire, a lower element in the form of a girdle or corset having its upper portion overlapped by the lower portion of the brassire and spaced coacting means positioned respectively at the bottom of the front of the brassiere, at the bottom of the back of the brassiere, at the front of the girdle intermediate its top and bottom, at the back of the girdle intermediate its top and bottom, in forward relation with respect to what may be termed the axillary lines of the girdle and in rearward relation with respect to the said axillary lines for elastically and detachably connecting said upper element to said lower element thereby imparting to the brassiere all the relief and freedom of a separate or non-connected brassire.

Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a combination garment which is simple in its construction, strong, durable, formed of an upper and a lower element disposed in overlapping relation 10 elastically and detachably connected together, overcoming discomfort from a binding standpoint when worn, thoroughly efficient for the purpose intended thereby, readily assembled and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a brassiere or upper confining garment which may be attached to a. girdle, corset or other lower garment and which will have relatively free movement throughout with respect to such lower garment while at the same time it is maintained in the initial desired relation to said lower garment.

A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a corset, girdle or other lower garment of such type having means for connecting an upper garment to the front and rear of the hip lines of the lower garment for permanently maintaining the upper garment in yieldable connected relation with respect to the lower garment.

With the foregoing and other objects which may hereinafter appear, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more specifically described and are as illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown embodiments of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

10 The garment is of the combined type and includes an upper element l in the form of a brassiere and a lower element 2 in the form of a girdle or corset. The lower portion of the brassiere I overlaps and completely encompasses the upper portion of the lower element 2. The latter will be hereinafter termed a girdle and it is to be understood that the term girdle will apply to a corset.

With reference to Figures 1 to 6 the brassiere l has connected thereto and depending from the bottom edge of its front a resilient loop forming means consisting of a resilient continuous front strap 3 formed of an intermediate part 4 and a pair of end parts 5, 6. At the points where the intermediate part 4 merges into the end partsv 5, 6, the strap 3 is connected to the lower edge of the front of the brassire, at points spaced from each side of the vertical median of said front by securers I, 8 in the form of stitching. Between the securers I, 8 and interposed between the central portion of the bottom edge of the front of the brassire and the intermediate part 4, a stitching 9 is employed for connecting said intermediate part, between the securers I, 8 with 3D the front of the brassiere in spaced relation to the central portion of the said bottom edge. The end parts 5, 6 are folded upon themselves in a manner to provide a pair of inwardly inclined oppositely disposed folds H], II having their upper termini anchored to the bottom edge ofthe front of the brassiere outwardly adjacent the securers I, 8. The manner of setting up the end parts 5, 6 form oppositely and horizontally extending elastic front loops I 2, l3 of substantially triangular contour and horizontally. The non-folded portions of the end parts 5, 6 and the intermediate part 4 provide the strap 3, when it is in normal position with an arcuate stretch and in this connection attention is directed to Figure 3. V

The brassire has connected thereto and depending from the bottom edge of the back thereof a resilient loop forming means consisting of a resilient continuous rear strap l4 formed of an intermediate part l5 and a pair of end parts l6, l1. At the points where the intermediate part I5 merges into the end parts I6, H, the strap 14 is connected to the lower end of the back of the brassire at points spaced from each side of the vertical median of said back by securers l8, I9 in the form of stitching. Between the securers I8, I 9 and interposed between the central portion of the bottom edge of the back of the brassiere and the intermediate part l5 a stitching is employed for connecting said intermediate part, be-

tween the securers l8, l9 to the back of the brassire in spaced relation to the central portion of the said bottom edge. The ends I6, I? are folded upon themselves in a manner to provide a pair of inwardly inclined oppositely disposed folds 2|, 22 having their upper termini anchored to the bottom edge of the back of the brassiere outwardly adjacent to the securers i8, H9. The manner of setting up the end parts I6, I? form oppositely and horizontally extend ng elastic rear loops 23, 24 substantially of triangular contour;

The non-folded portions of the end parts l6, l1 and the intermediate part l5 provide the strap I l, when it is in normal position, with an arcuate stretch. The strap I4 is arranged in the same manner as the strap 3, but strap I4 is of greater length than strap 3. The intermediate part I5 of strap M substantially corresponds in length to the intermediate part 4 of the strap 3. The end parts I6, I? of the strap M are of greater length than the end parts 5, 6 of the strap 3 whereby the loops 22, 23 are larger than the loops l2, I3. The loop l2, I3, 22, 23 constitute connecting or anchoring devices.

The front of the girdle, between its top and bottom, is provided with a pair of oppositely and horizontally extending spaced aligned upstanding anchoring devices 25, 26 of like form. Each anchoring device has one end secured to the front of the girdle. The anchoring devices extend towards each other and are arranged in forward relation with what may be termed the axillary lines of the girdle. Each anchoring device consists of a lengthof tape 21 folded upon itself in a manner to provide a horizontal upper fold 28 and a downwardly outwardly inclined lower fold 29. The bend 36 between the folds 28, 29 inclines outwardly from its lower to its upper end. The folds 28, 29 adjacent to and in proximity to the bend 36 are anchored together by a row of stitching 3| which provides a barrel 32 inclining outwardly from its lower to its upper end to the vertical. The fold 28 overlaps the upper portion of the fold 29. The folds 28 and 29 are secured adjacent their free end edges to the girdle 2 by the rows of stitching 33. Each anchoring device includes an upstanding coupler 34 which is disposed at an outward inclination from its bottom to its top to the vertical. The coupler is formed lengthwise thereof with an inclined slot. 35 to provide an inclined pivot 36 which extends through the barrel 32.. The coupler 36 is of greater length than the length'of the barrel 32. The upstanding coupler 34 is cut out to form an inclined passage 31 lengthwise thereof which is closed at its upper end and open at the bottom edge of the coupler. The side wall 38 of a passage 3'5 has its lower portion, as at 39, inclined away from the side wall 46 of passage 31. The lower end of the side wall 46 of passage 3'! is shouldered as at 4!. The coupler 34 is permanently connected to the tape 21. The slots 35, 31 are disposed at the same inclination as that of the coupler.

The anchoring devices 25, 26 coact with the loops l2, 13 for elastically, slidably and detachably connecting the bottom edge of the front of the brassire to the front of the hip lines at the front of the girdle.

The front and back of the brassiere are indicated at 42, 43 respectively. The front and back of the girdle are indicated at 44, 45 respectively. The simulation of the wearer on which is positioned the combination garment is indicated at A6.

The back 45 of the girdle 2 rearwardly of the axillary lines of the latter has connected thereto a pair of oppositely disposed spaced aligning upstanding rear anchoring devices 41, 48 and each of which is of the same form as an anchoring device 25 or 26 and each has one end connected to the girdle intermediate the top and bottom of the latter. The devices 47, 68 extend towards each other and are arranged in rearward relation with respect to the axillary lines of the girdle.

Thecouplers forming parts of the anchoring devices 41, 48 are indicatedat 49, 50. The couplers 49, 5D coact with the loops 23, 24 for elastically,

slidably and detachably connecting the back of the brassire I to the back of the girdle 2. The anchoring devices 41, 4B are arranged below the anchoring device 25, 26.

When the anchoring devices 25, 26 are connected with the loops l2, IS, the strap 3 will appear as shown in Figure 1. When the anchoring devices 41, 48 coact with the loops 23, 24, the strap l4 will appear as shown in Figure 2.

With reference to Figure 7 the construction of the combination garment will be the same as that shown in Figures 1 to 6 with this exception that the upper part of the straps overlap, for a portion of their length, the bottom of the front and back of the brassire for a portion of its length and the straps are connected to the brassire by cross stitching. Figure 7 illustrates but one strap and is indicated at 5| and the cross stitching which secures the strap to the brassiere is indicated at 52. Otherwise than that as stated, the modification shown in Figure 7 will be thesame as that shown in Figures 1 to 6.

In the form shown in Figure 8, the girdle will be of the same construction as that shown in Figures 1 to 6. The difference between the form shown in Figure 8 and the other constructions resides in the manner of setting up the elastic loop forming means. Figure 8 illustrates only the front of the brassiere and the girdle. The back of the brassire will be constructed in the same manner as the front thereof. The brassiere in Figure 8 is indicated at 53 and its front at 54. The girdle in Figure 8 is designated 55 and its front at 56. The loop forming means which is associated with the back 54 consists of a pair of oppositely extending elastic straps 51, 58.

The strap 51 is bent upon itself to form a pair of folds 58, 59. The fold 59 extends inwardly and at an upward inclination with respect to the fold 58. The free ends of the folds 58, 59 are spaced from each other and are secured at spaced points of the bottom edge of the front 54 as at 60, Si. The manner of setting up the strap 51 provides a loop 62 of substantially triangular form.

The strap 58 is bent upon itself to form a pair of folds 63, 64. The fold 64 extends inwardly and at an upward inclination with respect to the fold 63. The free ends of the folds 63, 64 are spaced from each other and are secured at spaced points of the bottom edge of the front 54 as at 65, 66. The manner of setting up the strap 58 provides a loop 61 of substantially triangular form. The front 56 of the girdle 55 has a pair of anchoring devices 68, 69 of the same form and arrangement as the anchoring devices 25, 26. The couplers T of the anchoring devices 68, 69 coact with the loops 62, 61 for elastically, slidably and detach ably connecting the front 54 of the brassire 53 to the front 56 of the girdle 55. The back of the brassiere 53, not shown, will be constructed in the same manner as the front of the brassire. The back of the girdle will be constructed in the same manner as the front of the girdle. Otherwise than that as stated, the modified form shown in Figure 8 will be the same as the form shown in Figures 1 to 6.

The brassiere of any of the forms shown will be provided with shoulder straps and these straps are indicated at H, 12 in connection with the brassiere l. The girdle 2 will be provided with straps at its bottom for supporting stockings and these straps are indicated at 13, 14 with respect to the girdle 2.

The elastic loop forming means or the parts of the garment which provide the elastic loop forming means extend downwardly at opposite inclinations with respect to the brassiere. The inclination of the loop forming means at the front of the brassiere is less than the inclination of the loop forming means at the back of the brassiere.

When the two elements of the garment are connected together and mounted on the wearer, with reference to the forms shown in Figures 1 to 7, the straps 3, l4 and sngly bear against the outer face of the girdle, but at'the same time the arrangement is such that the brassiere has the desired freedom to prevent possibility of discomfort or from hiking up relative to the girdle.

It is to be understood that the stitching wherever mentioned can be of any suitable character for permitting the attainment of the objects of this invention and that particularly the stitching shown for securing the intermediate portions of the elastic straps to the back and front of the brassiere may be binding or plain sewing. It is also to be understood that in the modified form shown in Figure 8, the anchoring devices 68, 69 ,may be resilient and the means forming the loops ,62, 64 may be of non-elastic material.

What I claim. is:

l. A combination garment comprising an upper and a lower element for encompassing the body of the wearer, the upper portion of the lower element being encompassed by the lower portion of the upper element, spaced aligned front anchoring devices forwardly of the axillary lines of the lower element, spaced aligned rear anchoring devices rearwardly of the axillary lines of i the lower element, elastic loop forming means at the bottom of the front of the upper element slidably and detachably engaging in said front anchoring devices for elastically coupling the front of the upper element to the front of the lower element, and elastic loop forming means at the bottom of the back of the upper element slidably and detachably engaging with said rear anchoring devices for elastically coupling the back of the upper element to the back of the lower element.

2. A combination garment comprising an upper and a lower element for encompassing the body of the wearer, the upper portion of the lower element being encompassed by the lower portion of the upper element, spaced aligned front anchoring devices forwardly of the axillary lines of the lower element, spaced aligned rear anchoring devices rearwardly of the axillary lines of the lower element, elastic loop forming means at i the bottom of the front of the upper element slidably and detachably engaging in said front anchoring devices for elastically coupling the front of the upper element to the front of the lower element, elastic loop forming means at the bottom of the back of the upper element slidably and detachably engaging with said rear anchoring devices for elastically coupling the back of the upper element to the back of the lower element, and each of said anchoring devices having its outer end in the form of an upstanding pivoted coupler extending at an outward inclination throughout from its lower end and having a passage for removably extending therethrough a loop forming means.

3. In a combination garment, an. upper element of a form. to encompass the body of the wearer, a lower element of a form to encompass the body of the wearer, oppositely extending spaced front connectors of loop-like triangular contour extended from the bottom of the front of the upper element, oppositely extending rear connectors of loop-like triangular contour extended from the bottom of the back of the upper element, spaced aligned oppositely extending front anchoring devices secured to and extended from the front of the lower garment and having their outer end terminal portions in the form of couplers having means coacting with said front connectors for slidably and detachably connecting the front of the upper element to the front of the lower element, and spaced aligned oppositely extending rear anchoring devices secured to and extending from the back of the lower element and having their outer terminal portions in the form of couplers having means coacting with said rear connectors for slidably and detachably connecting the back of the upper element to the back of the lower element.

4. In a combination garment, upper and lower independent elements for encompassing the wearer and disposed in telescopic relation, said upper element being formed at its front with spaced oppositely disposed front depending elastic extensions of loop-like form and at its back with spaced oppositely disposed rear depending elastic extensions of loop-like form, said lower element being formed at its front with spaced oppositely disposed aligned front anchoring devices extended therefrom and coacting with said front extensions for elastically, slidably and detachably connecting the front of the upper element to the front of the lower element, said lower element being formed at its back with spaced oppositely disposed aligned rear anchoring devices extended therefrom and coacting with said rear extensions for elastically, slidably and detachably connecting the back of the upper element, the said several extensions of loop-like form and the said several anchoring devices further coacting for maintaining said upper and lower elements in telescopic relation, and each of said anchoring devices being formed with an upstanding passage inclining outwardly from its bottom to its top and through which extends a loop-like extension.

5. In a garment a brassiere-like body, a resilient member of strap-like form arranged at the lower end of the front of said body, a resilient member of strap-like form arranged at the lower end of the back of said body, each of said members including an intermediate portion and a pair of end terminal portions, said intermediate portions being connected to said body, and each end terminal portion of each of said members being folded to provide a loop, the free terminus of each end terminal portion being secured to said body above the intermediate portions, the remaining part of each end terminal portion being free ofconnection to said body, said loops being laterally disposed with respect to the ends of the intermediate portions.

6. A combination garment comprising upper and lower body encompassing elements disposed in telescopic relation, spaced connecting devices having their engaging portions horizontally and oppositely extended with respect to each other secured to the lower portion of the front of said upper element, spaced connecting devices having their engaging portions horizontally and oppositely extended with respect to each other secured to the lower portion of the back of said upper element, spaced connecting devices having their engaging portions horizontally and oppositely extended with respect to each other secured to the front of said lower element intermediate the ends of the latter, spaced connecting devices having their engaging portions horizontally and oppositely extended with respect to each other secured to the back of said lower element intermediate the ends of the latter, the connecting devices secured to one of said elements being elastic, and the connecting devices secured to one of said elements having means coacting with the connecting devices secured to the other of said elements whereby said upper element is detachably, slidably and elastically connected to the lower element.

'7. In a combination garment, a girdle, a brassire having its lower portion encompassing the upper portion of the girdle, a flat continuous elastic strap having its ends and an intermediate portion secured to the brassire toprovide in connection with the latter a pair of spaced oppositely disposedelastic front loops extended from the bottom edge of the front of the brassire, a rear continuous elastic strap having its ends and an intermediate portion secured to the brassire to provide in connection with the latter a pair of spaced oppositely disposed elastic rear loops extended from the bottom edge of the back of the brassire, spaced aligned front anchoring devices carried by the girdle forwardly of the axillary line of the latter and having means coacting with said front loops for elastically, slidably and detachably connecting the front of the bra-ssire'to the front of the girdle, and spaced aligned rear anchoring devices carried by the girdle rearwardly of the axillary line of the latter and having means coacting with said rear loops for elastically, slidably and detachably connecting the back of the brassire to the back of the girdle.

8. In a garment, a lower element of a form for encompassing the body of the wearer above and below the hips, a pair of spaced oppositely and horizontally extending front anchoring devices, each being secured at one end to the front of said element forwardly of the axillary line of the latter, said anchoring devices including oppositely disposed couplers at an inclination to the vertical adapted to connect the front of a brassiere to the front of said element, and a pair of spaced oppositely and horizontally extending rear anchoring devices, each of said rear anchoring devices being secured at one end to the back of said element forwardly of the axillary line of the latter, said rear anchoring devices including oppositely disposed couplers at an inclination to the vertical adapted to connect the back of a brassire to the back of said element.

9. In a garment, a brassiere-like member having the lower edge of its front provided with an elastic element disposed in transverse relation with respect to and having its end terminal portions forming in connection with said front a pair of oppositely and horizontally extending front loops adapted to be connected to the front of a body element of a form to encompass the body of the wearer above and below the hips whereby the front of the brassire will be elastically connected to the front of said body element, said member being provided'at the lower edge of its back with an elastic element disposed in transverse relation with respect to and having its end terminal portions forming in connection with said back a pair of oppositely and horizontally extending rear loops adapted to be detachably connected to the back of said body element whereby the back of said member will be elastically connected to the back of said body element.

10. In a garment, a girdle-like body of a length to extend above and below the hips of the wearer, two pairs of horizontally disposed anchoring devices adapted for detachably connecting a brassire to said body, the engaging portions of the anchoring devices of each pair being oppositely disposed, arranged in spaced relation and extending towards each other from their respective points of attachment, one pair of anchoring devices being secured at their inner ends to the front of said body forwardly of the axillary line of the latter, and the other pair of anchoring devices being secured at their inner ends to the back of said body rearwardly of the axillary line of the latter.
