Description

E. PARSONS.
SUSPENDER. A No 172 O49. 7 Patented .Ia'n.11,1876.
INVENTOR N.FETEHS. FHOTOLITHOGRAPHE& msnmerbu. n c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
EDWIN PARSONS, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUSPENDERS.
Specification f0rming part of Letters Patent No. 172,049, dated January 11, 1876; aipplication filed November 20, 1875.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN PARSONS, of Cleveland, in the county of 0uyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and Improved Shirt-Bosom Adjuster and Drawers-Suspender Combined, of which the following is a full and complete description:
This invention is a device for adjustng a shirtbosom so that, while it is being worn, it shall preserve a smooth, unrumpled front, and which device at the same time may be used for holding up the drawers.
The device referred to consists of a yoke, A, which is made to fit on over the shoulders of the wearer, as will be seen in Fig. 1, and which descends down over the breast to the waist, to the lower part ot the shirtbosom, where it terminates in a pair of extensiou Straps, B, to which is seoured a ring or eyelet, C. To said eyelets are attached a springstretcher, D, which may be of metal or other appropriate material, and of a length equal to about the Width of the shirtbosom. E E are a pair ot" extension-straps, attached to the stretcher by eyelets or rings F, as will be seen in Fig, 2. The lower end of each of the straps is provided with a button-hole, a. To the eyelets or rings F is also attached a pair of short straps, Gr.
The practical application of the above-described device to the use intended will be readinto which the studs o of the stretcher or spring D are buttoned, the stugls coming through to the outside of the shirt. To
this end the shirt-bosom is drawn down smoothly upon the breast, and in the event the button-holes in the shirt are not in proper place for the studs the spring can be adjusted by the extension-straps B to meet them. This being done, the straps E are then hooked onto the studs, which are brought back over the front ot the hips, and secured to buttons sewed on the inside of the pants. Said pants are indicated by the dotted lines e. Suflicient teusion is given to the straps E to cause them to draw upon the bottom of the bosom enough only to hold it smoothly down without straining upon it. The straps E being extensible, they can be readily shortened or lengthened iu order to reachthe buttons, and, also, being made of elastic webbing or tape, they will 'readily yield to any straiu that may be exerted upon them by the shirt-bosom or by the pants. In conseqhence of the yoke hanging upon the shoulders, no strain can be exerted upon the shirt-collar. What strain more than is neces sary to keep the bosom smoothly down will be-expended upon the yoke, which is borne upon the shoulders, and therefore no unusual strain will come upon the neck to make the wearing of the yoke uncomfortable. In the event drawers are woru they can be held up by buttoning them to the straps Gr ret'erred to.
The peculiar shape of the loops or eyelets F is such that they can be easily buttoned or unbuttoned; hence but little extra care and time are required to put on the shirt-adjuster more than that required tbrordinary dressing.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The suspender composed of the yoke A, extension-straps B, stretcher D, and extension-straps E, -all combined and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
