cosMETIc CARRIER.
Application vmea May 2, 192s. serial No. 274,456.
This invention relates to cosmetic carriers and particularly to mascara cosmetic carriers. Carriers of this character are adapted to serve as containers for cosmetic substances such as are used in coloring the eye lashes, eye brows and mustaches.
One feature of the invention is to provide a carrier of the above character that is eXceeda ingly compact and readily retillable.
Another feature of the invention lies in the provision of a carrier of the above character which serves to completely protect the con` A third feature oit the invention is to furnish a carrier of the above character which,
provides means for handling and using the cosmetic material without the necessity of touching the saine with the fingers, andato this end the same is furnished with a novel means for removably supporting a brush or similar instrument by means ot which the cosmetic may be applied by the user.
Still another feature of the invention lies y in the provision ot a carrier of the above .lill
character, that is of simple construction, re-
Yliablein pperation and easily retained in a sanitary condition.
Cther features and advantages will become apparent from the specilication, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein the invention is embodied in concrete term.
Figure l is a side view oit the cosmetic can' rier of this invention in closed condition;
Figure 2 is an edge view of the same;
Fi ure 3 is a sectional view .taken along the line 3--3 of Figure 2; Y
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 1, but illustrates the carrier portion of the cosmetic carrier removedl from the casing to give ac.
cess to its content;
Figure 5 is a central longitudlnal vertical section of the carrier portion illustrated 1n Figure 3 and shows the cartridge partly re-4 moved. y
Figure 6 is an end view of Figure 5;
Fi ure 7 is sectional view taken along the liny 7 of Figure 5, and
Figure 8 is a sectional view taken along the line 8'8 of Figure 7.,
Similar characters of reference are emi ployed In all of the hereinabove. described views, to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now to the said drawings, the
reference character 1 indicates the complete novel cosmetic carrier, the same comprising a casing 2 and a carrier portion 3. The casing 2 is hollow and may be of elliptical or other desired cross-sectional sha e,`and is preferably made y,of sheet metal. ne end of the casing 2 is closed and the other end is open and is adapted to telescopically receive the body 4 of the carrier portion 3. A cover 5 is mounted upon one end of the body 4.
The body 4 is made out of a single piece of sheetmetal that is bent into cllipitcal l form so as to lit within the casing 2. The
.10 is bent up against the lug 8, thereby securing these meeting edges of the body together.
The body 4 is partially cutaway for the greater portion of its length to form a trough 11. inwardly projecting anges 1.2 and 13 are provided on the upper .edges'ot the side walls ot the trough 11. rll'hese Hanges do not extend to the end ot the body `4 for a reason that will be explained later. rlhe body 4 is slit at 14 and 15 and then deflected tp forml an U-shaped clip ld.
A cartridge 17 containing cosmetic material 19 is arranged to be positioned withinv the trough 1l. Cartridge 17 is of sheet metal construction and conforms to the trough 11` Flanges 12 and 13 engage the upper edges of the sidewalls of the cartridge 17, thereby re taining this cartridge within the trough 1l. Cartridge 17 is open at its top and has end walls 18 and 20. End wall 20 extends slightly above the side walls of the cartridge so that its upper edge is Hush with the upper surfaces of the flanges 12 and 13. Cartridge 17 is inserted into the trough 11 by moving the end 18 longitudinally into this trough. When the cartridge 17 is completely inserted. into the trough 11, the outer surface of the end wall 20 is flush with the end oi the body 4 as illustrated particularly in Figures 3 and sembled, the cartridge 17 and body 4 present y l a neat and unitary appearance. Noprojecting sharp edges are exposed to cause damage to the user. The end wall 2O serves as the end of the body 4 and the upper edge of this end wall appears to be a continuation of tht` flanges 12 and 14.
A brush 21 is adjacent to be removably 'retained within the cosmetic carrier l by the U-shaped clip 16. Brush 21 is used in applying the cosmetic material 19 contained within the cartridge 17.
`With the cosmetic carrier 1 completely assembled, should it be desired to use the same, it is merely necessaryto grasp the cover 5 of the carrier portion 3 and Withdraw the carrier portion from the casing 2. The brush 21 may then be withdrawn from the clip 16 and upon application to the material 19 is ready for use. It is not necessary that the fingers should come into Contact with the material 19.
When the cosmetic material 19 Within the cartridge 17 has been completely used, this cartridge may be removed and refilled, or a new cartridge may be inserted. Likewise should the brush 21 become Worn, it may be replaced. The carrier may be easily and quickly sterilized by removing the cartridge, and then dipping the casing 2 and carrier portion 3 in hot water, all of which aids in maintaining an adequate sanitary and hygienic condition as to said parts.
rI"he cosmetic carrier of this invention has a neat and pleasing appearance and is extremely compact.
Owing to its simple and rugged construction it may be economically produced and has a long life.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently Widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What is claimed is:
1. A cosmetic carrier comprising a casing and a carrier portion arranged to extend into said casing'- in detachable relation thereto, said carrier portion having a longitudinal trough-like extension having anopen free end, a cartridge containing cosmetic material removabl slidable into said trough-like eX- tensiont rough the open end thereof, and
means on said carrier portion for supporting a brush used in applying the cosmetic material.
2. A cosmetic carrier comprising a casing and a carrier portion arranged to extend into said casing; said carrier portion comprising a body and a cover secured to said body, said body having a trough for carrying cosmeticl material and a clip for carrying an applying brush.
3. In a cosmetic carrier, a carrier portion comprising a body and a'cover secured to said body, said body having a trough for carrying a cartridge containing cosmetic material and a U-shaped clip for carrying an applying brush.
4. A cosmetic carrier comprising a carrier portion and a casing for covering said carrier portion, said carrier portion comprising a unitary b ody conforming to said casing, said body being cut away for the greater part of .its length to provide a trough, flanges projecting inwardly from the edges of the trough, said flanges being adapted to retain al cartridge within said trough, and an U- shaped clip formed by defleciing the side walls of said body inwardly, said clip serving to carry an applying brush.
A cosmetic carrier comprising a carrier portion and a casing for covering said carrier portion, said carrier portion comprising a unitary sheet metal body conforming to said casing, securing means formed integral with said body for locking together the abuttin edges of the piece of sheet metal forming said body, said body having a trough extending the greater portion of the length of said body, a cartridge conforming to said trough and positioned within said trough, said cartridge having an outer end wall that is flush with the end of said body, flanges projecting inwardly from the edges of said trough and extending rom the outer end wall of the cartridge for the greater portion of the length of said trough, said flanges serving to retain said cartridge Within the trough and an U- shaped clip positioned in opposed relation to said trough and formed by detlecting the side walls of saidy body inwardly, said clip serving to carry an applying brush.
In testimony, that I claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set my hand this 30th day of April, 1928.
