A further object of the invention is to provide a pocket structurev of this character in which the outwardly disposed pocketis provided with a flap forming a closure for the pocket opening and within which pocket articles may be safely carried and with the other of said pockets being adapted to receive the hands of the wearer so as to form a protection therefor, the interior of each of said pocketsbeing entirely isolated from each other so as to prevent the possibility of the accidental removal of the articles from one of the pockets by the movement of the hands in the other thereof. n

An additionalobjectis to provide a pocket structure for garments of a simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, which may be formed in the garment without materially increasing thecost of manufacture'thereof and otherwise ywell adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in Y the special construction, combination and ar.-

rangement of the various elements forming the invention as more fully hereinafter 'described and claimed, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which: In the drawings:

Figure 1 is a fragmentary plan view of a portion of a garment provided with a double pocket constructed in accordance with my invention,

Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view therethrough.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, I have illustrated by invention arranged as a part of a garment indicated at 5, which `in its presentembodiment is represented as ay coat of-the wind "breaker'or lumber jack type, it being understood however, that the inventionis equallywell adapted for use" in conjunction with various other types of garments.

The invention comprises a double pocket in-V cluding an inner pocket 6 and outer pocket 7,

vthe inner pocket being formed by a vertically extending opening in the outer layer 8 of the garment whereby to form a pocket opening-9,. and arranging a section of material 10 inwardly with respect to the material 8 with its end edges sewed as at 11 to the inner edges of the opening 9 whereby to form the inner pocket 6 of the material 10. The upper and Y lower edges of the pocket material 10 are also sewed to the garment material 8 as incated at 11. The outer pocket 7 is formed by sewing a piece of pocket material 12 alongl its side and bottom edges tothe outer surface of the garment material 8, the upper edge of the material 12 being left unsecured whereby to provide the pocket opening 13 for the outer pocket 7.

Immediately above the upper edge of the outer pocket 7 is arrangedv a flap 14 securedV along one edge to the outer surface of the garment material 8 and adapted to extend over the opening 13 in a manner for closing the same, said flap and said outer pocket 11 being provided with cooperating sections of e a snap fastener 15 whereby to permit the flap 14: to be releasably secured over .said pocket.

As clearly illustrated inFiguresl and 2 of the drawings the rear side edge of the outer poclet7 isV disposed in alinement with the edge of the opening 9 for the inner pocket 6.

A strip of binding material 16 may be placed along such edge of the outer pocket 7 for the purpose of reinforcing the material and preventing wear along such edge of the outer pocket.

As shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, the area of the inner pocket 6, designated by the dotted lines 17 may be greater than the area of the outer pocket 7, although it is to be understoodthat the relative area of such pocket may be altered as desired.

It will be apparent from the foregoing that each of the pockets are provided with separate pocket openings, the garment material 8 serving as the dividing means for the respective pockets. The outer pocket 7 is adapted particularly for the carrying of articles therein Whereas the'inner pocket 6,.having its opening extending vertically is adapted for conveniently receiving the hands of the-wearer in a manner for protecting the same While the garment is being Worn.

Itis obvious that my invention is lsusceptible to various changes and modifications in construction without departing from the spiritrof the invention or the scope oli' the appended claim, and I accordingly claim all such forms of the device to Which I am entitled.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is A double pocket for garments comprising a section of pocket material secured upon the inner face of the material of the garment,

said garment material having avertically eX- tending opening formed therein whereby to provide an opening for the inner pocket material, said pocket material being folded upon itself With its edges secured at the opposite edges of the opening a section of pocket material secured upon the outer surface of the garment material With its side and bottom y edges closed and having one of its side edges disposed along the edge of the opening Jfor said inner pocket, and secured to one edge of the inner pocket material and a reinforcing strip of material arranged to provide a common reinforcement for one edge of the inner pocket opening and one edge of the outer pocket material.
