Description
W. DONIGER GARMENT Filed July 28, 1952 a I! i 5 Patented Sept. 12, 1933 P ENT OFFICE UNITED STATES William Doniger,
David D. Doniger a 00., New York, N. Y., a corporation of New York Application July 28, 1932 Serial No. 625,349
My invention relates to a new and useful sports garment, and it relates more particularly to a novel construction therein, whereby certain articles may be suitably protected in the garment while in use.
, It is an object of my invention to provide a sport garment whereby tobacco, a pipe or. other smoking requirements or accessories or the like, may be properly stored and kept ,within the garl0' ment, and whereby the use thereof maybe fa-' cilitated.
A further object of my invention is to provide a sport garment with a pocket construction havbacco and smoking accessories. 7
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists of a sport'garment including ,apocket having outer walls of leather, and inner walls of fabric and rubber and having a concealed fastener which will, form a continuous closure for the pocket. My invention further consists of other novel features of construction which will appear more fully from the following detailed description.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I
have shown in the accompanying drawing one.
form thereof which is at present preferred .by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood-that the various instrumen- ,talities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is notlimited to theprecise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
Referring to the drawing in which-like'reference characters indicate like parts: Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the garment embodying my invention, shown iniise.
, Figure 2 represents a perspective view of the same on an enlarged scale, showing the'pocket and its various compartments open.
Figure 3 represents a front elevational View of the pocket construction withthe front wall of the pocket removed, and with a part of the .inner wall also removed to expose to view the' interior construction. Figure .4 represents a section on line 4 -4 of Figure 3', on a somewhat enlargedscale. The garment 5 of my present invention consists of a'body 6 of leather, which has a pocket opening 7 formed therein at a suitable point for the formation of the pocket 8.
I The main compartment of the pocket 8 is formed of the outer wall 9 and an inner wall 10 ing a humidor effect, particularly for carrying totected from the elements, and yet without the 2' Claims. (01. 2-253) of leather, the latter wall being formed of a patch sewed to the walls-6'01 the garment asindicated particularly in Figure 4.
Within the main compartment 11 of the pocket, I provide a humidor compartment 12, preferably of the same width as the main compartment 11, but of a lesser depth as indicated particularly in Figures 3 and 4. This compartment is formed of the outer and inner water-proofed walls 13 and 14, of rubberized fabric or similarly waterproofed material, the .two side edges and bottom edge of which are sewed to the inner leather panel'lc of the main compartment by a line of sewnstltches indicated by 15.
To the upper edges 16',and 17 of the water- 7 proofed plies l3 and 14, the two halves l8 and 19 of an interlocking link type slide fastener are secured by lines of sewn stitches 20 and 21;-- said fastening device including the slide 22 and the handle 23 thereof, by means of which the humidor compartment 12 'may be completely opened or closed at will. Adjacent the outer wall l3 of the humidor compartment 12, a chamois ply 24 is provided, which extends from the horizontal line of stitches 20 tothe bottom of the main compartment over part of its width, as indicated atv25, and which over the-remaining portion of its width, indicated by 26, extends only to the line of stitches 15. An opening 27 is provided in the chamois panel 25,
and a flap 28 is provided over said opening. By
this means, a pipe compartment 29 is formed between theouter-wall 13 of the humidor compartment 10 and the chamois ply 24.
An outer flap 30 is also provided, aflixed by the row of stitches 2 1, which normally is adapted to close-the main pocket opening '7, thereby completely concealing the slide fastener of the humidor compartment 12 and the flap 28 of the pipe compartment.
By this novel construction, the garment is adapted to carry all the smoking accessories within one main pocket, with the tobacco suitably pro- 1 same being visible externally, and withoutthe main pocket being obstructed, since the main pocket compartment 11 is still free for the reception of other articles as may be generally used in. sports. 1 r
It will thus be seen, that according to my invention, I provide a pocket which is subdivided into several compartments, one of which is waterproofed and closed completely by a slide fastener, and others of which are closed by 'flaps, with the l l0 Ill main flap of the main compartment completely concealing all the compartments. In the illustrations in the drawing, 31 repre sents'a smoking pipe, the bowl 32 of which projects down into the lower portion 33 01' the pipe compartment, while the tobacco is indicated at 34, in the humidor compartment 12.
I am aware that my invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereof, and I therefore desire the present embodiment to be considered -,in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, reference being had to the appended claims rather than to the foregoing description to indicate the scope of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I hereby claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A sport jacket, including an outer pocket, two juxtaposed inner walls within the same, formed of water-repellent fabric amxed to each other along their sides and bottom, and open along their upper edges, forming a tobacco compartment within said pocket of lesser depth than the outer pocket, an interlocking-link type slide fastener having the two rows of links thereof secured, respectively, to the two opposed edges of said upper opening of said juxtaposed water-repellent fabric walls, a closure slide intermediate said two rows of links of the fastener for opening and closing the upper free edges of said waterrepellent walls, a pipe compartment within said pocket intermediate the outer wall of said pocket and said tobacco compartment having a greater depth than said tobacco compartment and having a portion thereof narrower than said tobacco compartment and adapted to support a pipe in a generally upright position, and an outer .fiap disposed in operative relation to said outer pocket and adapted to extend over the upper opening of said pocket as well as the openings of said to-' bacco and pipe compartment therein.
2. A sport jacket, including an outer pocket, two juxtaposed inner walls within the same, formed of water-repellent fabric afll red to each other along their sides and bottom, and open along their upper edges, forming a tobacco compartment within said pocket of lesser depth than the outer pocket, an interlocking-link type slide fastener having the two rows of links thereof secured, respectively, to the two opposed edges of said upper opening of said juxtaposed water-repellent fabric walls, a closure slide intermediate said two rows of links of the fastener for opening and closing the upper free edges of said waterrepellent walls, a pipe compartment within said pocket having a greater depth than said tobacco compartment and having a portion thereof narrower than said tobacco compartment and adapted to support a pipe in a generally upright position, a main pocket compartment intermediate said compartments and the outer wall of the jacket, and an outer flap disposed in operative relation to said outer pocket and adapted to extend over the upper opening of said pocket as well as the openings of said tobacco and pipe compartments therein.
WILLIAM DONIGER.
