UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SPORT JACKET Stanley Papierniak, Amsterdam, N. Y.
Application October 2, 1940, Serial No. 359,441
1 Claim.
- thereof under one of which is formed a waterproof pocket having an opening at right angles to the other pocket whereby tobacco or cigarettes may be carried therein without becoming damp when the Jacket is used during rainy weather.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a sport jacket which may be folded and stored in the waterproof pocket by turning the jacket inside out within the pocket whereby the jacket may be carried conveniently in one of the compartments of a golf bag without being subjected to mosture and the resultant mildew.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description of the accompanying drawingswherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the garment illustrating the arrangement of the pockets with respect to the garment,
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view of the jacket illustrating the blouse effect at the waist portion,
Figure 3 is a perspective view showing a portion of the garment and illustrating the side pocket in which the garment is stored when folded and reversed,
Figure 4 is a horizontal cross sectional view taken on line 44 of Figure} looking in the direction of the arrows illustrating the construction of the reversible storing pocket and the location of the conventional garment pocket,
Figure 5 is a front elevational. view illustrating the initial step during the folding procedure,
Figure 6 is a similar view illustrating the next folding step,
Figure 7 shows another step during the folding procedure,
Figure 8 is a top elevational view illustrating the sleeves folded prior to the final folding operation,
Figure 9 is a plan view showing the waterproof pocket which is exposed at the end of the initial folding operation,
Figure 10 is a perspective view of the folded garment after the waterproof pocket has been reversed and.
Figure 11 is a perspective view of the garment in its completely stored and compact position.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustrating the invention and wherein like reference characters will be employed to designate like parts throughout the same, the reference character l2 will generally be employed to designate a sport jacket including a pair of front sections or panels l4 and it connected to a back section l8 along the vertical seams 20. A shoulder portion 22 is stitched to the back by an arcuate seam 24 and said shoulder portion 22 connects with the front panel sections by shoulder seams 28 and 28, respectively.
Formed in the shoulder portion 22 is a neck opening having a collar 30 and the front panel sections i4 and it are connected by a slide fastener 32 having a slide operator 34. Sleeves l6 and 38 are connected to the panel sections i4 and i8 respectively, by stitching along the seams 40 and 42 and said sleeves are connected to the back portion I8 by stitching 44. Cuffs 46 are formed on the sleeves and are provided with fasteners 48 so that the sleeves may be tightly fastened around the wearers wrists.
Elastic shirrlng 50 is provided in the back portion it to provide a gusset between the vertical seams 20 and thereby cause the waist portion of the garment to flt more tightly around the wearer's waist.
Formed-in the front wall of each panel section I at the lower portion thereof is a pair of pockets 52 and 54 having closure flaps 56 and 58, respectively. As shown in Figure 4, the pocket 58 is formed by stitching an additional piece of. fabric as at iii ,to the under side of the front panel and securing the same in place by stitching 82 and 84. The additional piece of fabric 60 forms the outer wall for a pocket which is lined with a waterproof material by means of oilskin cloth or specially treated silk 68 and III as shown clearly in Fi ur 4.
The rear wall 12 of the pocket 66 is stitched to the front panel as at 14 and a flap 18 having a lining I8 is also secured to the juncture of the side panel i6 and rear pocket wall 12 by folding the same as at into the seam held in place by the stitching I4. The pocket flap 16 and lining II are stitched together along, their marginal edges as at 82 and each corner of the pocket flap i provided with buttonholes 84-f0r receiving a button 86 secured to the waterproof lining 10 of the inner pocket I.
If desired, both pockets 52 and 54 may be formed as shown in Figure 4 so that the hands may be inserted after the fashion of a mufl. during cold weather.
When it is desired to fold the sport jacket into a compact articles as shown in Figure 11, the jacket is folded as shown in Figure 5 on its horizontal median line.
The sleeves 86 and 38 are folded downwardly while the jacket is being folded. The shoulder section 22 is next folded downwardly as shown in Figure 6 and then the jacket is folded so that both sleeves 36 and 38 are placed in registry as shown in Figure '7.
The sleeves 3B and 38 are then folded back upon themselves as shown in Figure 8 so that they are entirely within the confines of the jacket after being folded on its vertical and horizontal median line. When the jacket is thus folded, the reverse side will assume the appearance shown in Figure 9 so that by inserting the hand in the pocket 86 and turning the pocket inside out, while at the same time drawing the garment therein as shown in Figure 10, the garment becomes folded within the pocket as shown in Figure 10 and the pocket forms a container therefor having waterproof outer walls 68 and 10 which form theinner walls of the pocket 66 when the garment is unfolded. After the garment has been folded and the pocket reversed, the closure flap I8 may be fastened in place by anchoring the buttons within the buttonholes 84.
It is to be understood that the form of the invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred embodiment of the same and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or thescope of the subioined claim.
What is claimed is:
A jacket, sleeves secured to the jacket, a slide fastener for the front portion of the jacket extending from the top to the bottom thereof, pockets formed in the lower outer portion of the jacket, a container formed under one of said pockets having an opening on the side of the jacket, waterproof material secured to the walls of the container whereby said jacket may be folded to the size of the container and the container turned inside out to completely enclose the jacket, a closure flap secured to the jacket adjacent the side opening, and means on one inner side of the container for securing said flap thereto when the container is turned inside out.
