Application filed June 13, 1928. Seallo. 284,957.
This invention relates generally to hats and, more particularly, to certain new and useful improvement in hats ot the type commonly known as harvest-hats.
Hats of the type stated are usually constructed with flexible relatively wide brims, and my present invention has for its object the provision in a harvest hat ot means where by a desired roll or curl in the brim may be conveniently adjustably obtained.
And with the above and otherobjects in view, my invention resides in the novel features of form, construction, arrangement, and combination ot parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
ln the accompanying drawing,-
Figure l is an elevational view ot a'hat constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention; and y 2o Figure 2 is a cross sectional view through lthe middle of the hat, showing the co-operative relation between the brim and its curling chin-strap. l z
Referring now more in detail and by reference characters to the drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment ot my inventionwti designates the crown'and B the brim of the hat, which is preferably constructed as a whole ot straw or other woven fibrous mateiial as is customary in the production of harvest or summer outing hats, the brim B being` flexible and of relatively wide or transversely extended proportions.
C designates an adjustable holding` or chin 3,5 strap, whose middle portion is looped and passed Vthrough a slide-buckle or the like l,
whereby the strap C may be adjustably loosened and tightened at will. The end portions 2 of strap C are looped and passed slidably through respective eyelets 3, 3, provided 40 therefor in the brim B upon opposite sides of the hat, theends of the strap C being brought under the brim and passed upwardly through eyelets 4lalso provided therefor in the brim and knotted, as at 5, for securement, as seen in Figure 3. lt will be evident that vby adjustably -manipulating the chin Vstrap C, the side portions of the brim B may be rolled upwardly and inwardly andthereby l co 1Jeuiently given a desired attractive curl. 50 Obviously, the general structure or' the hat and the particular details ofthe manner oi attaching the strap C may be modilied andl changed without in the least departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as denepl in the appended claims. t
vHaving thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent transversely extended flexible brim pro-vided at opposite sides of the hat with sets of spaced eyelets, a i strap secured at its opposite ends f to the brim and threaded through said eyelets lor adjustably curling the brim upon itself.
2. In combination with a hat having a transverselyextended flexible brim provided at opposite sides ot the hat with sets ot spaced eyelets, a strap secured at its opposite ends to y the brim and threaded through said eyelets for adjustably curling the brim upon itself,
and means having engagement with the strap for retaining the same in brim adjusted position. f i p In testimony whereoi, I have signed my'75 name to this specification.
