Application March 10, 1943, Serial No. 478,599
1 Claim.
This inventionrelates to new and useful improvements in a combination non-elastic adjustable hat band and bow trim hat.
More particularly, the invention proposes to so construct the hat band and bow trim that it may be applied to hats of various shapes and designs.
Still further the invention proposes to characterize the new band by the fact that it has an open side with straps continuing therefrom. It is proposed that one of said straps be laced through an opening in the other of the straps, and it is proposed that each of the ends of the band be provided with pairs of closely spaced openings outwardl adjacent the sides of said open side of said band, with the ends of the straps being looped through said spaced openings.
With the construction specified in the previous paragraph the straps may be pulled or slackened to adjust the size of the hat band. At the same time the new construction comprises a decorative bow trim for the hat.
Another object of the invention is the construction of a device as mentioned which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the in vention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a hat provided with a non-elastic adjustable hat band and bow trim constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a front elevational view similar to Fig. 2 but illustrated with the ends of the straps slipped out from the openings in the straps.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of another hat embodying the same invention.
Fig. 5 is a bottom view of the hat shown in Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a front elevational view of the hat shown in Figs. 4 and 5 but with the straps slipped out of the openings in the band.
Fig. 7 is a front elevational view of still another hat embodying the same invention.
Fig. 8 is a fragmentary sectional View taken on the line 88 of Fig. '7.
The combination non-elastic adjustable hat band and bow trim hat, in accordance with this invention, may be applied to any hat, indicated generally by reference numeral Iii, provided the hat has a flexible hat band H formed with an open side I2. Straps l3 continue from the sides of the said opening [2. On of these straps is formed with an opening l4 through which the other one of the straps passes. Each of the ends of the band II is provided with a pair of closely spaced openings [5 outwardly adjacent the sides of the said opening l2 of the band II. The ends 13 of the said straps [3 are looped through the spaced openings [5, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2. These looped ends may be pulled to contract the size of the band II, or they may be let out to enlarge the size of the band. It should be noted that the looped ends l3 comprise quite a decorative arrangement.
In the particular design of hat shown in Fig. 1, the hat is provided with a pancake type of crown [6 having an ornamental button I! at the center.
In Figs. 4 to 6 another embodiment of the same invention is disclosed. This embodiment distinguishes from the prior form in the construction of the crown I5 of the hat. This crown has a circular back portion l8 and the front portion has several straight sides l9. This hat is provided with a flexible hat band I I constructed identically to the corresponding hat band in the prior form of the invention. Like parts may be identified by like reference numerals.
In Figs. 7 and 8 still another form of the inven tion has been disclosed which distinguishes from the prior forms in the construction of the crown 20 of the hat. This crown is of circular form and it is provided with a side insert 21 which gives the crown height. This hat is also provided with a flexible band ll constructed identical to the corresponding bands in the previous forms of the invention.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within th scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
A flexible hat band having an open side and straps continuing from said open side and one of said straps being formed with an opening and the other strap being passed through said opening, each of the ends of said band having a pair of closely spaced openings adjacent the open sides of said band, said straps having their free ends passed through said openings away from said open side and back through said Openings towards said open side to have their ends directed towards each other, said openings being of a length slightly less than the width of said straps to pinch the straps together where they pass through the openings to frictionally grip the edges of the straps.
