The invention has for an object the construction of an article as mentioned which is characterized by the fact that it may be engaged on ones head over ones hair, and then contracted to tightly engage on the head.

More specifically, the invention proposes the provision of an element along the bottom edge of the material of the cap arranged to form a passage, and the provision of ribbons within the passage by which the bottom .edge of the helmet may be contracted.

Still further, the invention contemplates the provision of a pair of ribbons within said passage, said ribbons being attached at their opposite extremities to the ends of the passage and having their other extremities projecting sothat the extended ends may be simultaneously drawn to cause the contraction previously referred to.

Still further the invention also proposes the association of an element extending from the front at the top of the helmet or cap down to the bottom and associated with means for contracting the helmet or cap along this area to control its size.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

The shower helmet or cap, according to this invention, comprises waterproof material Iii shaped to engage over ones head and having a front edge I l for engaging about the wearer's face, and a bottom edge 2 for engaging around the wearers neck. The material l0 may be oiled silk, cellophane, or other flexible and soft material. An element i3 extends along the bottom edge [2 of the helmet or cap and is shaped to form a passage it. This element, as shown on the drawing, consists of a bottom portion of the material of the helmet or cap bent upwards to form the passage i3 and is terminated in a binding i3 which is secured in this position by a line of stitches it. A pair of suitable ribbons or strings I5 and iii are laced through the passage H3. The ribbon i5 is attached at one end E5 to one end of the element i3, and at the other end extends from the passage. The ribbon it is attached at one end 16 to the other end of the element i3 and extends through the passage and has its other end freely extending from the passage. The arrangement is such that the extended ends of the ribbons i5 and It may be simultaneously drawn to contract the bottom edge E2 of the device.

The front edge II is finished with selvage edge stitches H. The helmet or cap shown on the drawing is formed from two sections of material iii and Ni which are connected together along adjacent sides disposed at the center of the helmet or cap.- Stitches it serve to attach the adjacent sides together. A binding strip is engages over the edge portions of the adjacent sides for assisting in forming a waterproof seam.

In Figs. 5-7 inclusive a modification of the invention is disclosed in which an arrangement is provided for contracting the helmet or cap in height. This arrangement consists of an element 20 extending from the front at the top edge to the bottom edge along the central seam which connects the two pieces of material of the helmet or cap to the bottom edge. This element is in the form of a tape of comparatively large size which is secured at its edges by stitches 2! to the material of the helmet or cap, and which is of a size so as to form ahollow passage 22. The ribbon 23 is attached at one end 23' to the end portion of the element 20 and extends through the element and out from the other end portion. The ribbon 24 is attached. at the end 24 to the other end of the element 20 and extends through the passage 22 and out from 'the other end. Along the extended ends of the'ribdesired, and then to connect the fastening elements and 26 for holding the ribbons in the new position.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. A shower cap, comprising waterproof material having a front edge for engaging around a wearer's face and a bottom edge for engaging around a wearer's neck, an element along the bottom edge of said material forming a passage, means within said passage by which the bottom edge may be contracted, an element extending from the front at the top of said cap down to the back at the bottom, and means associated with said element by which the height of the cap may be contracted.

2. A shower cap, comprising waterproof material having a front edge for engaging around a wearers face and a bottom edge for engaging around a wearers neck, an element along the bottom edge of said material forming a passage,

means within said passage by which the bottom edge may be contracted, an element extending from the front at the top of said cap down to the back at the bottom, and means associated with said element by which the height of the cap may be contracted, including a pair of ribbons extending through a passage in said element.

3. A shower cap, comprising waterproof material having a front edge for engaging around a wearers face and a bottom edge for engaging around a wearers neck, an element along the bottom edge of said material forming a passage, means within said passage by which the bottom edge may be contracted, an element extending from the front at the top of said cap down to the back at the bottom, and means associated with said element by which the height of the cap may be contracted, including a pair of ribbons extending through a passage in said element, one of said ribbons being permanently attached at one end to one end of the passage, the

other of the ribbons being attached at the other end to the other end of the passage, and said ribbons extending through the passage.

4. A shower cap, comprising waterproof material having a front edge for engaging around a wearer's face and a bottom edge for engaging around a wearer's neck, an element along the bottom edge of saidmaterial forming a passage, means within said passage by which the bottom edge may be contracted, an element extending from the front at the top of said cap down to the back at the bottom, and means associated with said element by which the height of the cap may be contracted, including a pair of ribbons extending through a passage in said element, one of said ribbons being permanently at tached at one end to one end of the passage, the other of the ribbons being attached at the other end to the other end of the passage, and said ribbons extending through the passage, and means associated with the extended ends of the ribbons for holding them in selected extended positions.
