Description
m. 9, 1937. A, a MCDONALD 2,070,442
ARTICLE OF HEADWEAR Filed Oct. 23, 1935 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 9, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to an article of headwear.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide, in an article of headwear, such as a hat or cap, for example, means for holding or maintaining the hair in well groomed condition.
The advantages of the invention will be appreciated by those who use the article of my invention.
The invention will be fully and comprehensively understood from a consideration of the following detailed description when read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms part of the application, with the understanding, however, that the improvement is cap-able of extended application and is not confined to the exact showing of the drawing nor to the precise construction described and, therefore, such changes and modifications may be made therein as do not affect the spirit of the invention nor exceed the scope thereof as expressed in the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of a hat embodying my invention; and
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the part Which is placed within the crown of the hat and functions as means for holding the hair in place.
Referring to the drawing for a more detailed description thereof, the numeral 3 indicates a hat having a crown 4, a lining 4a in the crown, a brim 5 and the usual sweatband 6. Attached to the sweatband around the same by means of hooks I is a headcovering 8 which is shown in the drawing as being a net, altho it may be of any other suitable material which is adapted. to conform to the head of the wearer. It will be noted from Fig. 1 that the headcovering 8 is spaced from the top of the crown 4 of the hat, whereby the form of the crown will not be altered when the headcovering or net 8 is pulled down snugly onto the head of the wearer. It will readily be appreciated that the novel headcovering 8 of my invention will be efiective to maintain the hair in a well groomed condition and that, in the preferable form of a net, the proper 5 ventilation may be obtained.
While I have shown hooks I for securing the headcovering 8 to the sweatband, it is to be understood that any suitable fastening means may be employed, but such fastening means are preferably such that the headcovering may be readily detached from the sweatband so that the head covering may be cleaned when necessary, and it is further to be understood that, if desired, the headcovering 8 may be attached to the hat otherwise than to the sweatband. The hook I and any other fastening means which may be employed, should be adjustable relative to the sweatband or other part of the headwear so that the relative height of the headcovering 8 may be adjusted to suit the wearer. It will further be appreciated that said headcovering, in addition to having the functions aforementioned, will assist in retaining the hat or other article of headwear on the head against the action of Wind.
What is claimed as new is:
The combination with an article of headwear having a high crown and a sweatband therein, of an auxiliary protector of retiform structure removably secured at its periphery to said sweatband and adapted to conform to the head of the wearer in spaced relation to said crown, and attachment means engaging said protector and said hatband comprising a C-hook engaging said retiform protector in a void thereof and being pointed at one end to piercingly engage said hatband.
